Flying tips, or whatever you call it...

Well,

I am really enjoying the new flying tips.

In the latest version of il2 I had installed they weren't there - don't really know when they were introduced ( ? ) - but I find them very interesting and helpful.

Great idea, specially for those who, just like me, easily forget to retract the gear... or lean the mixture.... and for the newcomers too!

Yes helpful, and the greatest part is you can switch them off. But really, people should stop looking at the % and use the gauges. It makes the flying more interesting and make all these aids very much not helpful, but I think it is a great tutorial for new people. But it should be a server option making them not legal, because it gives a advantage to those using them in full real non GPS servers, against those wanting to fly full real. The tips make you fly to the edge of what the plane can do before it break down.

And that is in other places considered a cheat

Thought they could be turned off, although I would not turn them off anyway.

Regarding the "%" I agree with you, but I always look at  the instruments. I do glimpse at the wind rose though.

I find the tips actually make u fly very conservatively as the warning come way before you break anything. So would disagree that they give an advantage its the opposite

The Technochat feature is very well done.

And to the extent it allows the virtual pilot to understand the position of controls without looking at them, it's actually more realistic than not. For example when lowering the flaps on a real 109 the pilot would know they were down when the wheel stopped turning. Without Technochat you actually have to look at the trim wheel.

But some of the "Tips" seem like they shouldn't belong in the "Technical" category. For example, Engine Overheating/Cooling, Gun out of Ammo. The messages about "Emergency Power" or "Continuous Power" probably don't belong in Tips either although consider that some players might be using keyboard keys for these and therefore can't tell by feel the position of the throttle or RPM control.

I actually find them annoying. Half the time that text is telling me to do stuff that I got by better ignoring. Like with the I16 for instance when it kept telling me to reduce my power, but not telling what to do to not fall out of the sky! I had the same problem with the P-40. Of course it was the good guys online who informed me to watch my gauges (such as the manifold pressure) and to adjust my prop-pitvh/rpms that actually helped a great deal.

It annoys as well when it tells me to slow down or speed up when I`ve landed or taken off fine doing it my way and distracting my concentration (and yes, it does annoy even on a peripheral level).

I much prefer looking at the gauges and as soon as my ink arrives I`m going to print off all the cockpit gauges so I can learn them all.

Last of all I hate magic words appearing in the air. WW2 Pilots never saw that in reality and I don`t want to either. The fewer the better.

Well, I just came from a MP session where I picked the Ju-87 for the very first time since I own the game :)

They kept telling me to retract the gear :(

Needs to be fine-tuned in an upcoming patch...

And in the Pe-2 you are advised to deploy full flaps and approach at 190km/h IIRC. Oops.

I think the techno chat messages are generic and not specific to individual aircraft. Therefore you still need to know the limits of the plane you are flying.

I think some are adapted - I've seen different finals speeds for different aircraft, but - yeah - clearly a work in progress!

More easy look at the flaps position on wing...

The next steep in this "gamey" way is make the target, runways etc became highlight and blinking like in various easy games.  :P
