schaetzle73 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Hi, there. I have bought the Premium version of Battle of Stalingrad. I have 10 planes to fly. It is not clear if I can add two more planes, if yes, how? Supposing that I want to have BOS in Steam, shall I have to buy the game again in Steam? Thanks.
seafireliv Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 You have all the planes of BOS if you bought the Premium. You don`t need to buy it again on Steam. The only `advantage` of Steam is that updates will download straight away if you enable it.
Jade_Monkey Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Also, the udpates are usually much smoother in Steam (the launcher updates can have issues from time to time) and you dont have to use the launcher which used to drive Malwarebytes crazy because it had a P2P component that wouldnt deactivate despite me unchecking it. If you already use steam then its nice to have your games in one place. The downside is that the update downloads are slightly bigger on Steam, so if you have a data cap you may want to use the launcher.
schaetzle73 Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 seafireliv & Jade_Monkey:: Thank you very much for your help. As I bought the simulation 2 days ago, Il-2sturmovik.com does not allow me to transfer my license to Steam. It is a pity, since I have all my games by Steam and I know them well. This is my first time with the launcher from Il-2sturmovik.com, let us see how it goes.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 For practical reasons I ditched the launcher and made a shortcut straight to Il2.exe on my desktop. Updates don't come often enough to justify using the launcher daily, and it gets me straight to the login screen
Sokol1 Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 The "advantages" are very subjective and personal, but see a practical disadvantage: if want sold the key someday STEAM don't allow, the one from site is possible.
JG5Deadstik Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 The only two advantages I can think of would be for ease of use with a squad and the friends list to see who might be online but possibly playing a different game & lastly would be the use of steam coms if you don't have something like discord, Teamspeak, ventrillo ect.....
Dakpilot Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Is it not possible to add BoS as a non Steam game to steam library or something similar and take advantage of that even without Steam version? Cheers Dakpilot
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 There are so many advantages to using Steam that this thread should actually be titled "What are the disadvantages, if any, to BOS on Steam?"

I should have made a bet. I knew someone would come out to defend Steam sooner or later. `Oh noes, Steam , my mom, is being criticised. I must defend her!`
unlikely_spider Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Well, I get much higher download speeds on Steam than I usually did through the launcher, so that's an advantage. Steam consistently maxes out my bandwidth for downloads.

Well, there I simple add BoS as "non STEAM" and now can use the Friend List and STEAM Browser - to run NoobieNoobs interactive map and virtual DR-2 disk... And the non STEAM version updates there always are "one click matter". As "the old man say": Computers and they users are strange things, they never do things in same way... FYI - I am not STEAM "hater", use some games in them - but only if are not option to don't use (for CloD I find a way), and STEAM local prices eventually make games more cheap that if buy in developers store. xvii-Dietrich Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I use Steam, and find it okay. Some of the things I find useful are: allows me to stay in touch with other online acquaintances, see who's online and who's playing what provides a single manager programme for all my games, making it easier to deal with installations and to clean up when needed. lets me easily migrate to different machines when I move hardware, without need to keep loads of disks or lists of keys/passwords automatically manages downloads/updates (and you can easily configure when, how and at what bandwidth it does them) it has a neat way to upload screenshots and content from play sessions there's a uniform way of providing reviews and comments on different titles it has a common platform forums, with a huge userbase... thus it is a good source for support there are guides and user support documentation there you can create your own groups and thus run a squad without the need for separate websites, etc. it also has a method for announcing events and scheduling gaming sessions occasionally, there are Steam sales, which are a good way to get games cheaply As a more general gaming site, you can keep up-to-date with other titles/genres. I discovered BoS because of Steam, which is what led me here. Steam is not perfect, and there are a few things where it is not so good. These include: it can sometimes be less flexible in the purchase model not all games are well integrated into the Steam environment developers don't necessarily keep their Steam pages up-to-date the community can be dominated by more "casual" gamers, which is not so good for serious titles like flight sims there's a bit of a learning curve to get all the benefits from Steam sometimes games can be found cheaper elsewhere However, I certainly find it useful and I will import BoM into Steam when I have the opportunity to do so. If you are only interested in a single game title, then it probably doesn't offer a great benefit, but if you have a broader range of interests and wish to keep in touch with a more diverse gaming community then it is pretty good. PS: You can find me on Steam... just look for "xvii-Dietrich" in the community search.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I have both and have noticed that I have less input ID issues on Steam version. PC version I have more ID input issues. also on steam its available if you lose your HD its always there for you to re download.
Sokol1 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 also on steam its available if you lose your HD its always there for you to re download. And in il-2 store re-download is not allowed - if one lost their HDD? 1

I can't see how that has any, even remote, correlation to Steam/il2sturmovik.com Also, that makes no sense - you can redownload it regardless of your purchasing/licensing venue.
