Anyone else feeling a bit of a noob?

I'll match you a NOOB and raise you a NOOB! I'm the ultimate plodder. I'll feel like I have accomplished something when I'm able to land a plane without crashing. It's fun though!

Hi Furbs!  Yes I know that feeling you speak of.  I havent even had a joystick connected to my PC for the first time in almost 15 years since CLOD died an unceremonious death.  (A very deep disappointment that I know everyone felt) I tried to get back into it with the TF patches but it still felt lifeless, soul-less and a waste of time for so many reasons that have been discussed to death.

Now this Alpha, which I only got to play around with on keyboard (because stuff is all packed ready for a big house move next week)... it's been like the anticipation of CLOD that we all had, except with the payoff of being much more than I was expecting. (again.. thats only playing on a keyboard!) I cant wait to get this house move over so I can get into it properly next week for round II.

Its a really good indication of how good a sim is, when your just doing circuits, touch and go's and just flying around and you have a really big smile on your face the whole time. :)

Hi guys,

Can't wait for advances in this sim...but the Gremlins have struck already  :dash:

Following install/setup, I attempted simple take off and found myself heading hard left as wheels left ground (3 attempts)

so allowed Autopilot to get me in the air....switch off auto...immediate roll to left....CRASH

Started RoF, checked "Response" and found ailerons were hard left with stick centered and responded to throttle increase/decrease  :o: moving throttle to 50% allowed normal use

DESPERATE MEASURES...Butcher 2 joysticks into 1 usable control system.

After remapping I managed a few circuits as well as cross wind take off and "Relocation" etc etc (found myself really enjoying flying)

Two hours later Hard Rolling to left re-appeared :dash:

Joysticks is/are now going to be project for panel build and I will settle for new joystick around Christmas (until then I might settle for keyboard)

Keep flying  :)

Unpack the TV first (to keep the family busy) then unpack the computer/joystick go flying and let the rest sit in boxes until Friday!

I haven't had a landing yet where the plane didn't get broken. I think it will be easier once we're able to trim the planes properly.

+1   Me too. I though is was just me??

Its just that crosswind landing

It is a bane of many a real pilot!

Sounds like IL2 BOS is off to a great start!!!

I did feel just a bit noobish myself. While my air combat skills have always been suspect, I had thought my ability at decent landings was pretty good. All the LaGGs I broke say otherwise. On the upside though, I really enjoyed flying at low level across the snowscape. I was able to pull off a couple of sensational crashlandings. The sensation of flight was as good, maybe better, than I've felt in a sim. Can't wait for next week.

Pretty much this. Is there any guidance yet for different situations in terms of engine management in LaGG3? Also I am the only one who find it rather tough job to destroy the engine with wrong management? I mean I can do it only right after startup with utterly wrong settings (everything the opposite way it should be according to mission briefing) then applying rapidly 100% mixture. Anyone so far managed to jam the engine during any action in air or I were the only one who cared to check that aspect of the Alpha?

I have, I enjoy seeing how the limits are modelled and what does what if mismanaged. As of yet, the only thing I've managed to do is starve the engine of fuel (took off with 10%, and the sputter/siezing up is a very neat effect - like ROF's) and overheat which led to total engine failure. Smoke spewing behind. Although I believe steam was still trailing behind, and if it got that far along I would have assumed all coolant would have been gone so there shouldn't have been any further steam. I did try overcooking with the oil, keeping water well within range but letting the oil heat up but didn't notice anything. Maybe that was is still on the to-do list.

I imagine the "to do" list is rather long still. :)

Though i would think after such a successful launch, the devs have a new spring in their step, energy renewed and are raring to go. :)

Propably so, but it actualy would simplify mess in bugreporting if we already knew what's not yet there ;)
