SAG Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 i was just wondering if there was German version of the russian RPK in this game... is there one?? how is it called? Thanks! :D
TG-55Panthercules Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I think I saw this one in BoM earlier today: RPK = Rocket Propelled Kettenkrad - that's what you meant, right? 3
Aap Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) You mean the radio compass? There is a radio homing indicator on Ju-87 and He-111, but not on fighters. I guess it made it to G6 in real life. I have not tried them in BoS, but I guess they are pretty useless for now. If the beacon is automatically set to your home base, then it has some use for navigation of course. It was a nice feature in Il2 1946, though, where you could actually select beacons and even set it to a radio station and listen to radio while flying. And could also use it for blind landing. SAG Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Thanks for the replies, im just wondering because i want to try and think of a way to let people have navigation aids that are accurate not GPS
Yogiflight Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 BTW Ju88 and Bf110 also have it, I always use it for RTB in campaign.
6./ZG26_McKvack Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 BTW Ju88 and Bf110 also have it, I always use it for RTB in campaign. How does it work/how to use it? :/
Asgar Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 you don't have to do anything. if the mission builder has the beacons set on the airfields it will show you the way to the closest one
No601_Swallow Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Sokol's the one to ask. See here. The AFN-2 works fairly well in BoS/BoM. But unless you're at altitude the light that flashes on when you're overflying the beacon goes out very very quickly. The only problem is that the nav instruments will only indicate the nearest beacon, if there are more than one on the map. There are what seem to be place-holder settings in the ME to enable each beacon to have its own "frequency", so maybe in future the devs will implement selectable (or tunable) navigation beacons. In fact the German bombers are also have equipped with the Peilgeraet - that big white disk, which also indicates the same NDB.
Yogiflight Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) The german Peilgerät is quite easy to handle in the campaign. You have only one beacon at your home airfield, and the needle shows you in which direction you have to fly. The only thing you have to know, is when the needle is left of the mark beneath, you have to turn left, not right as I would have thougt. So the direction the needle is, shows you to which direction you have to turn. Edited May 24, 2016 by Yogiflight
Sokol1 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the replies, im just wondering because i want to try and think of a way to let people have navigation aids that are accurate not GPS One thing that will help in German fighters of BoS/BoM period, as they don't have AFN-2 fitted for follow radio beacon, is if their "course setter" are made workable in game - actually is fix to North. The external knurled ring in compass can be turned manually to set a desired course, placing the desired heading in 12 o'oclock position, then you fly with compass need pointed to 12 o'clock. * In this picture the "course setter" (dont know the correct name in German) is set for HDG 40 - placed in 12 o'clock. To follow this heading the pilot should steering the plane until this "plane needle" point for this 12 o'clock position, or the HDG 40, more intuitive that actual "workaround". * In IL-2'2001 this course setter adjust was done automatically in SP missions with waypoint's.
