-TBC-AeroAce Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) So this thought occurred to me last week. I wanted to practice a navigation route before SNBF that was from Zetty to a target. But I could not fly from Zetty, The nearest base was 20k or so to the SW. So I had to fly from that base, to Zetty and then start my practice. Being a flight sim and all I think its reasonable that you should be able to select any airbase that is on a map to fly from and not just the ones that are given atm in the QMB. I suggest this could be implemented with a drop down box with airfield names ...... and then the current scenarios that are in game atm populate around what field you choose. Instead of having the limiting 5-6 locations that we currently have. I know there is the FMB but I really dont want to muck around with that just so I can take off from a particular airfield. This next bit may be a little OT from me the OP but I also would like to be able to place pre set template ground targets simply at a location so I can do some level bombing without FMB. Currently in QMB if you select a target field every thing is too close for any real use. Long story short I would like a dev made (not third party) Intermediate Mission Builder with a couple more options than the QMB but no where in the complexity of the FMB. Basically if the devs could flesh out the QMB or a IMB it would actually become more of a sim IMO. Thanks Edited May 24, 2016 by AeroACE
EAF_51_FOX Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 agree 100%..if possible it will be a great addd-on.

Im kinda at the stage with this game that I think it is very good but not in the real detail/playability. I actually hope instead of going for BO...X soon they sit back and really flesh out some of the core details! But I understand that will cost money with no income so ......

Yeah, sorry, but dream on. I don't ever see resources being devoted to something like this.
216th_Peterla Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I like the idea. In fact I was thinking the same. I will like to choose from any different airfield in the map for a free flight practice. Cheers!
-TBC-AeroAce Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) Yeah, sorry, but dream on. I don't ever see resources being devoted to something like this. It cant be that hard to make it so we can take off from any field in the QMB surly? Maybe keep it like it is and then have a side drop down box so we can select anyfield. I could set that up in a working day or two for every field in the FMB for a map. Then all u need is a separate drop down box gui designed that links to the FMB missions. I really dont see it as too much work for a pro team and as I also said I would rather they focused next on the little details for a bit before the do the next BOX. As a new map and some planes is not going to overpower the finer mechanics. Edited May 24, 2016 by AeroACE
No601_Swallow Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) As a stopgap, maybe this evening I could do a mission with a populated airfield (perhaps two, one Russian and one German). Then all you'd need to do would be: 1) open the mission in the ME, 2) find the airfield on the map 3) drag a selection box around the whole thing 4) press ctrl+x to "cut" the objects 5) find the airfield of your choice and put your mouse there 6) press ctrl+v to "paste" the airfield back onto the map 7) with the ctrl button held down use left click and drag to align the objects with the new runway 8) Save as... 9) Go fly it! 7a) You could also set clouds, wind, turbulence, etc, as you wish. Honestly, hands on heart, the ME is dead easy for this kind of thing so long as there are ready-made "groups" you can just paste onto your map! Come on in, gents, the water's loverly! Where's Zetty, by the way? Which map? Edited May 25, 2016 by No601_Swallow

I changed the mission type to single. IIRC, that`s way it was done earlier. Have I forgotten something? Any ideas?
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 yes dogfight is how its saving, try saving it as a single mission only.
Toxin1 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Although it is 3rd party developed, you should consider talking with Lupson and inquire about adding those features into his excellent SMB.
No601_Swallow Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Hey Swallow, few days back I was trying to save one of the campaign missions for performance testing. I could save it but the mission won`t show in game. I changed the mission type to single. IIRC, that`s way it was done earlier. Have I forgotten something? Any ideas? Hmmm. SP missions should be saved as "Single Player" type and should go in the ...data/Missions/whatever folder. MP missions should be saved as "dogfight" type and should go in the ...data/Multiplayer folder. The other thing to check is that you've named it something. Yes, you've "saved as..." and given the file(s) a name, but you've also got to fill in the name in the mission properties window in the ME. That's the name that's displayed in the GUI for SP. (Doesn't really matter for MP, because for the DServer you're just adding the file). Oh the fun I've had when I've renamed a mission but forgotten to change the "name" in the mission properties window....! Apart from that, the biggest difference (now) is that of course MP missions need an "airfield" (called fakefield or rwfakefield), while SP missions need an aircraft with its AI property set to "Player", natch!

carve_gybe1 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I've said it before and I'll say it again: developing the missions/campaigns for SP use does not need to be extra cost for the devs. People would pay...
Flynco Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I think if it does not implement a mission editor better the game over time will continue to decline
Jason_Williams Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Guys, I hear you on the QMB, but the changes you want to it are unlikely to happen. However, as Swallow has said, you can cut and paste groups. This greatly simplifies making large populated areas easier, if a "maestro" of detail creates the smaller groups first. There is a Group Sharing area in the forum for those that didn't know. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/14803-groups-sharing-corner/ I started the process of making a website to host all kinds of third party content a while back like Skins, Missions and Groups, but myself and the person helping me flamed out. Not enough hours in the day. Jason 1
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 OT. Although not exactly what the OP is looking for this is also available, just in case. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/19036-il2mg-mission-generator/
