=38=Tatarenko Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 (edited) A few people (like real pilots) have mentioned how to prevent a ground loop in a tail dragger and it seems odd but it really works. As you slow down on the runway you lose rudder authority from airspeed so to regain it throttle up to provide airflow over the tail. Seems very odd to throttle up when you're slowing down but it works. Completely counter-intuitive. Full brakes too obv. Edited November 20, 2013 by =38=Tatarenko
Sim Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I can tell you have never played RoF? Yep, short throttle up "burst" are the way to keep your plane going forward and avoiding any ground loops.
Dooga Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Also you have to be *very* proactive on the rudder - as soon as you see the slightest beginning of an unwanted turn, apply opposite rudder. This will mean you're constantly dancing on the pedals to keep her straight - which is the most realistic experience I've had yet in a sim!
Bando Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 If this is really like the "real thing" I am glad to be a bus driver
4H_V-man Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I got to take the controls of a BT-13 WWII trainer plane this summer, from 200 ft. agl on take-off to 100 ft. agl on final. From that experience I can say the devs have done an incredible job of making this sim feel like the real thing. The roar of the engine and the sound of the wind over the canopy sound so realistic I could hardly believe it. The sensation of flight is as good or better than RoF. I can't believe this is an Alpha version.

Yep, short throttle up "burst" are the way to keep your plane going forward and avoiding any ground loops. Coming from RoF has definitely made the transition less painful And recent attempts at learning CEM in CLoD helped me figure out the prop pitch issue for take off.
FuriousMeow Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 The 109 with it's narrow track landing gear is going to be interesting. I imagine it'll behave a bit like the tractor biplanes from RoF on the ground - really squirrely and very easy to loop at lower speeds.
