Guest deleted@50488 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Picked the trickiest of the fighters, for me the P-40E, made a circuit and... It really feels different ? More stable and easy to trim, engine sustains higher power settings for longer ? Am I dreaming or did the devs fine tune it ?
BlitzPig_EL Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I think you are dreaming/placebo effect in play. I keep wrestling with the P40 as it is my favorite WW2 aircraft, but it's a hopeless turd in it's current state. I'll get a kill on an AI, or one of my friends every once in a while, but it's mostly down to luck. It's still modeled to pre war training manifold pressure limits. I shudder to think how they will model the P39 with the same engine in it.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I think the P-39 might be a different story, mainly because we are talking about aircraft used between 1943-1945 so the documentation used will be the contemporary one. Even if they do implement conservative limits on it though, the P-39 was a much more streamlined and lighter aircraft than the P-40 so I'm not too concerned
MadisonV44 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Not flying the P-40 but me and my squad mates also noticed a real improvement with the FW-190 (we all came to the same conclusion after 5mn of flight). @blitz : Believe me m8 it's no placebo there, when you fly a plane many hours a day for years you notice every little change, improvement or regressions. 1
ShamrockOneFive Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Kind of gave up on my P-40 career. Time to try it again and see.
seafireliv Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 (edited) I haven`t had as much time to fly the P-40 as I`d like cos I`m trying to get through other planes first. Last week in Saturday Nights Bombing flight I found it the absolute trickiest of aircraft to taxi, compared to the others. Made it to the airstrip though. Then somehow killed the engine in flight! Will give it another try today I think (if circumstances allow), maybe the patch has improved it. Edited May 21, 2016 by seafireliv
ShamrockOneFive Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Flew a couple of missions in it. Its just as it was... I try not to be overly critical but its terrible. And not done the justice of the other types. There are some great points (firepower and durability) but it seems hamstrung.
Willy__ Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Placebo. Its the same case with the 190. It still porked.
Guest deleted@50488 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Well, maybe it is indeed placebo, or maybe the last time I had used il-2 was just too long ago before some patch that did change, at least the engine getting damaged too soon, to easily when using higher than 45 in MP.... It's a challenging aircraft, and of course if I enter a furball server with it, I'm paying for disaster, but I intend to give it a go and start trainning...
MadisonV44 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Placebo. Its the same case with the 190. It still porked. Maybe not perfect, but much better compared to previous version, high speed stall don't happen so often with this patch. By the way the FW is still loosing too much energy and have a poor acceleration rate. On this point I agree with you.
KoN_ Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Not flying the P-40 but me and my squad mates also noticed a real improvement with the FW-190 (we all came to the same conclusion after 5mn of flight). @blitz : Believe me m8 it's no placebo there, when you fly a plane many hours a day for years you notice every little change, improvement or regressions. So has the climb rate improved and the dive extend away . And the snap stalls . Ive seen a lot of back pressure joystick warnings .
MadisonV44 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Only snap stalls have been corrected from my recent flights experience. Fewer high speed stall, better combat maneuverability On the other points the bird is still an energy strainer.
