Is there anyway to set the clouds altitude without typing by hand in the mission file?

What is exactly level m: ?

I did not know the height could even be changed.

You can't really change the height of clouds with those inputs. It's a left over from RoF - the new clouds introduced in BoS have a fixed height/altitude for each cloud config/preset drop down option.

There are differences, I think, between the different presets, which seem to influence haziness, cloud density, etc. And I think there are differences in cloud height. Sadly, though, I haven't had the patience to test them all systematically (or at all, if I'm being honest). Obviously, some descriptions of the cloud settings from the devs would be lovely...but... *sigh*     :)

Mission Atmosphere Options Dialog

Clouds

The amount and type of cloud in the sky. You interpret the values in the drop-down list as follows:

- The words clear, light, medium, heavy, and overcast represent the amount of low-level cumulus (puffy) clouds in the sky.

- The last number represents the amount of high-level cirrus (wispy) clouds in the sky.

8. Morning and evening fog added to all maps (in half of the weather sets, the ones that have non-even numbers)

No, you can't change clouds altitude in any way.
