Doom....oh dear lol

You will either love or hate this reviewer but I like him, he's brutally honest and the odds of him getting bribed are a big fat zero.

 

 Anyway I was really looking forward to Doom so much!! But then I saw some play through from the very beginning and the first thing I thought was it lacked any atmosphere and was lifeless. Doom 3 for me was probab ly one of the best FPS games ever made although I think Half Life was the best.

 

So....for me this guys review is 100% spot on, if you don't want to be burned at least look at the negative side rather than listen to the usual band of youtube hype retards, it's entirely possible most people are willing to overlook the negatives but I was expecting Doom 3 on Steroids and it's not even close from what I've seen. The reviewer doesn't say it's not worth buying but I know from watching this I would hate it.

 

They wont be getting my money sadly

Yeh same here sadly there are too many people who make 'reviews' just to make money and it doesn't help that some companies are doing copyright claims on the 'problematic' reviewers.

 

Getting an honest review these days is like finding rocking horse pooh

I was really keen when I first heard of this and have been a big fan of 1 & 2. I've been watching a lot of footage and find myself thinking yeah nah, that's not Doom. I miss the angular smooth tech and bright lights of the military and science outposts, juxtaposed with the cruel viscera of recent invasion and the wholly alien presence. There are no vast open areas and only sprinkles of enemies. Not the fifty to a hundred plus that could often be encountered in the first two games. None of the long straight corridors to sprint down. Combat is too close too often. Glory Kills (terrible name) are so frequent as to become mundane... I think I'll have to skip it. Maybe in six months or so the map builder will see people creating some good content. For me though, right now, it's not worth a buy.

I like this reviewer - as a seasoned gamer, he often experiences the fury of seeing something different and inferior and then finally manages to accept the game for what it is and enjoy it. His remarks about what constitutes difficulty are smack on.  As a seasoned gamer myself, I find this a very informative approach.  Plus the Geordie style.

 

Doom 1 was fun but I can see no reason for paying for it again.

Played it quiet some time this weekend. For me it's very refreshing to play this after all the FPS crap we got the last years. And it runs like a dream even on ultra settings.

 

BTW: I don't always like Macks reviews. I sometimes get the feeling he wants to be negative. For me Total Biscuit and gggmanlives (For shooters) are more on my level of expectations.

I don't religiously follow any reviewer although I tend to agree more with Mack's way of thinking but even then I disagree with him plenty. 

 

I'm just glad I watched some streams first because I thought this was going to be more Doom 3....a game which I absolutely loved. Instead it's gone back to Doom 1 which I think was a mistake....on top of which Perks WTF!? I really hate that kind of stuff and it's in almost every game now.

 

From what I can see there is under 10 hours of game play and that is just not acceptable in any game that charges AAA money and don't get me started on 'season passes' lol
