seafireliv Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Had a Campaign mission at night with low cloud cover, which I dread (this is on no icons). Took an LA5 up over Stalingrad looking for bombers. Somehow saw bombers and my wingman and I engaged. Shot one bomber down.Got jumped by fighters and slightly hit, but avoided and smoked a fighter, then suddenly, no more enemy. Then my engine sputtered and died, I opened the oil cooler and rads fast and feathered the engine. I looked for somewhere to crashland. Suddenly, the engine started up! I turned her homeward since the engine wasn`t too happy. Then half way to base saw stukas and twin-engined fighters, we attacked. My engine had enough power to chase a Stuka, the gunner did not fire. I did. I fired until no more ammo. He went down. I turned and headed for home. Don`t know what happened to the rest of the stukas or fighters although my wingman also radioed he was out of ammo and heading for home. Looked for the airfield, in the dark, with a dicky engine and saw the welcoming sight of flares and the criss-cross of searchlights. The night effects are nicely done. I love the flares, and the positioned searchlights- gives the airfield a Human feel, like someone`s actually there, signalling you home. A potentially bad mission turned out pretty well after all. 5

216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Great story and images seafireliv! I've yet to experience one of those in the campaign, but I'm looking forward to it
seafireliv Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Thanks guys. I still don`t like night missions, but it`s quite immersive.
