What's your current flight sim library?

Hey all - first off, I'm just curious - I have no agenda, not part of any camp, etc. I'm just wondering if, in general, you guys have a sizable collection of titles you keep (even if your only flying one or two favorites :) ) . The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to get a sense of how "niche" the whole thing really is. Ever since I saw these guys http://www.robertsspaceindustries.com/ come up with 7 million and a 100,000 paying customers for a game that's over a year away and a sim genre that was supposedly as dead as a doornail I've been wonderig if the market may be bigger than percieved. Anyways...on the HD

Need to add the DCS series as well.

Also some early ones like Cuck Yeager Air combat, SWOTLW, Elite, Pacific Air War and a few others.

And to think I used to know how to set up the .bat  files on my boot disks to get the mouse and CD drivers  to get the early games to load! Use it or loose it as the saying goes!

Rowan made some great sims....Mig Alley being my favorite. Machine gun dogfighting in jets...oh yeah! Excellent dynamic campaign as well....longing for a proper Korean war sim again. My first Rowan sim was Flight of the Intruder for the SNES in 91? Yeah I know...a flight sim on the SNES...lol

Lets see, the flightsims I played....

I was never a big flightsimmer in my teens but subconciously I always loved them and I played a lot!

Started with one of the very early MS flightsims that my brother played and I watched..all in English so I couldnt understand a word, and it was only lines on a black screen.

Then, the first one I seriously played....Micropose's 1942.......what great software!

Then, Dawn Patrol, Red Baron II and I think 3D, European Air War

Finally IL2, played a lot of that offline. also bought pacific, and then of course 1946. All offline.

Recently, my first online sim. I didnt play it for long, but really enjoyed it: Aces High 2.

After that, rise of Flight. Never been so much in love with a piece of software.

Also have OFF CloD. Didnt play much ofmthose although they both have lots of merit..just too bus with RoF..and they are perhaps not enough user friendly for me.

I think I played some more but those I remember best.

OK..well there ya go...lol - I thought maybe I was a little overboard with like seven titles, and that these days people were playing maybe one or two tops  Allright, that much dedication to product, over a lot of years, and I've looked at forum membership totals (where they're posted) and they seem pretty sizable. Yet flight sims are rare - so I get it - dedicated niche market.

IL2 - 1946 :

4.09 fully custom modded (90% playing time)

HSFX 6.17 custom modded - waiting for  Asura's  modded Dgen to give it a full spin

4.11 vanilla (just as future mod installations starter)

4.10 - DBW 1916 - curious what vpmedia and co. can make of this ( so far looks promising )

Wings of Prey - pure  fun

Cliffs of Dover

European Air War  fully modded - still the best offline playing experience (IMHO) ... too bad it's lost Nvidia drivers support

Hey - I fogot to ask - you can't play Mig Alley on any current system can you?

Posted

Geez guys thats some crazy lists there, for me

IL-46 - I have this "down to" 3 installs, stock 4.11.1 , DBW, and HSFX 6 and I love em all

CLOD - still play it, still love it, runs great on my rig

FSX - with about a bagillion mods, very beautiful and enjoyable for me, kinda my "relaxing" flying time, although with the VRS Tacpak out some soon it might get a little more intense me thinks :)

ROF -  haven't really played it much as WWI isn't really my thing but I do enjoy it when I do crank it up and when I get back from holidays I'm really going to start getting more into it.

DCS  - black shark, A-10, P-51 FC3, I love this platform with the A-10 being my favorite, completing a full mission from start up to shut down in the hog is one the most satisfying things I've ever done in any sim and now that it's been opened up to 3rd party development I'm super excited to see where it goes, bloody top stuff

BMS -  I'll only just gotten into this and its quiet daunting to be honest but it's really quiet fun leaning all the systems and applying them to do the mission ( yep I'm one of those guys ) great dynamic campaign too

Aces high - I used to play this quiet a bit but not so much now, some of the massive air battles with 200+ aircraft though were something behold and be involved in I gotta say, very fun at the time.

like a lot of guys here I've got other ones "on the shelf" but they're all uninstalled, my time is a bit tighter these days so the above ones are the ones that I have installed and enjoy.
