ShamrockOneFive Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Stars twinkle. I don't fly very many night missions so I don't know if this was in from the start or if it was added later. Tonight I was flying an intercept mission and I was flying an early morning intercept. There was a bit if light in the horizon but it was mostly dark. And I'm looking around at the beautiful star-field thinking to myself how nice it looks. Thats when I realize that the stars twinkle. And not all at once like a graphics glitch but looking like it was done very much on purpose. Stuff like that makes me very happy to see!
GrendelsDad Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 I think the stars are in the correct position too? Think I read that around here.
Dakpilot Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Pretty sure they are correct and for the date http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/20830-astronomy/?hl=stars&do=findComment&comment=330805 Cheers Dakpilot
ShamrockOneFive Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 The positioning I knew about from that thread (thanks for reposting the link Dak!) but I like that not only did the devs ensure that the stars were in the correct positions so as to facilitate night time star navigation for those who enjoy that sort of thing but they also went for a more artistic interpretation of the accuracy and ensured that they do things like twinkle. They also have different colours - seemingly to match what colour they should be. I think I spotted Mars on the one run as its very red (and I don't know of anything else that stands out as being that red in the nightsky).
Rjel Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 I'm still waiting to see a shooting star. I think that would be "wow" moment for me.
ShamrockOneFive Posted May 8, 2016 Author Posted May 8, 2016 I'm still waiting to see a shooting star. I think that would be "wow" moment for me. Pretty sure I would have to take a moment if I saw that! :D
xvii-Dietrich Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 I'm still waiting to see a shooting star. I think that would be "wow" moment for me. I saw a shooting star once. Then there was a second. And even a third... The fourth smashed into the tail somewhere, and the fifth, sixth and seventh killed my rear gunner. 5 seconds later my left engine was on fire and I was plummeting to the ground. A veritable fireball. Damn tracers. Still, BoS/BoM has a nice astronomy model. 1
