No_85_Gramps Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 For those contemplating buying a new video card: http://www.techspot.com/news/64736-nvidia-announces-geforce-gtx-1080.html
Sim Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 I am getting one for sure! From what I have read Pascal architecture looks like a big step forward in terms of performance.. and the new 1070 will be a significant upgrade for my aging 760..
JG27_Chivas Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 By far the most important new part of the 1080/1070 is the single pass multi projection tech. VR hardware will no longer take a big bite out of our frame rates. Maintaining 90fps/hz will be much easier.
Dutchvdm Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Something nice for later this year. It will replace my GTX 980 quiet nicely. That said. I'm i the only one that feels that the GPU is the only thing in a rig that needs regular replacement?
kestrel79 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 The 1070 sounds right in my price range, cool. I wonder if it will finally be able to run 3 screen BoS smoothly for me.
BeastyBaiter Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 (edited) If what I've heard so far is accurate, I'll definitely be replacing my 2GB GTX 770 with a 1070. Don't think I'll make the VR plunge yet (headsets themselves are way too expensive), but might grab a 2k or 4k monitor to go with it. And yes marinjnvdm, nothing else needs regular replacement these days. CPU's haven't gained much performance since 2011. The I5-6600k is 2.5% (yes, 2.5%, not 25%) faster than my 4690 (not k) according to passmark (7613 vs 7807). Things aren't much better when you compare it to an early I5. Even an I5-2500k from 2010 performs at 75% of the level the latest and greatest I5 does. Memory speed is also basically irrelevant as proven repeatedly by just about everyone, so the switch to DDR4 is meaningless. All the advancements in the last 5 years have been GPU's and SSD's, but those changes have been dramatic and it looks like that front is only going to speed up. Edited May 8, 2016 by King_Hrothgar
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 I have been waiting for the next level. Might be time for a new build.
Livai Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 I just wonder if the 1070 GTX will have 7 + 1 GB VRAM same story how the 970 GTX with the 3,5 + 0,5 GB VRAM. Not a good deal again if that happend again. The 1080 GTX sounds nice more faster than 980 GTX TI and the same price level. I expect a 1080 GTX TI coming first time with a 512-Bit Memory Controller 8 GB GDDR5X and a Titan X coming first time with a 512-bit Memory Controller 16 GB GDDR5X. A 512-bit Memory Controller is coming for 1080 GTX TI and the new Titan X. Why the source answer all your Question to be prepared for a 512-bit http://vrworld.com/2016/02/11/gddr5x-memory-shows-better-than-expected-results/
NN_Elanion Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 Informations of the futur 1060 here: http://www.techpowerup.com/222137/third-nvidia-gp104-sku-could-be-gtx-1060-ti-with-192-bit-memory-bus Perhaps in june ?
Dakpilot Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 GTX1070 has 8 GB GDDR5 VRAM no similar issues of 970 3.5+ 0.5 = 4 GTX1080 has 8 GB GDDR5X VRAM at least that is what I have read Cheers Dakpilot
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 8, 2016 Posted May 8, 2016 If the 1060 will be out this autumn I might just suck it up and sit with my GT120 until then.
