RedBravo65 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Can anyone out there who flies the Pe-2 regularly tell me how do you have the commands for this mapped to your joystick. I cannot get it to work on my HOTAS set-up. No matter what I do, what-ever button I map this to I cannot get them to work. I must be missing something right in front of my eyes but for the life of me I cannot figure this out. I've looked in the manual. I've consulted Chuck Owl's Guide on the section on the Pe-2, yet this does not work for me. Pulling my hair out right now. Any help most appreciated.
JimTM Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I have two keyboard keys (one to open, one to close) mapped to "Engine 1 water radiator shutters control" and two keys mapped to "Engine 2 water radiator shutters control". I believe you can control both radiators by mapping two buttons to "Water radiators shutters control axis".
RedBravo65 Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Thanks for the response. Yeah, you normally can. I've been doing that but it seems to not work for me. Something is not working correctly and I'm trying to find out what. I have a button (4 way) which is mapped to "water radiator shutters" and another engine part. The mapping works great with the fighters and have had no problems. But, when I used the same button for the Pe-2, it just does not work and I cannot figure out why. I was hoping someone else had same problem so I could figure out what I've been doing wrong. So far no good.
JimTM Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 See if you can get the buttons to work with the engine 1 or engine 2 controls I mentioned.
RedBravo65 Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 See if you can get the buttons to work with the engine 1 or engine 2 controls I mentioned. Yep, already tried it. Nothing takes. Can't get this command mapped to my HOTAs for the Pe-2. I just use the keyboard commands to open and close water radiators in the Pe-2. That's my work-around.
JimTM Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Hmmm. - Do you have "Radiator Assist" checked in your single-player realism settings or are you playing on a Normal-level server? - Does an orange double box (indicating multiple assignments) appear in the key-assignment box for the water radiator? That's all I can think of, aside from something weird happening with your hotas. Do other games work fine with your hotas?
GridiroN Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I'm not sure what the confusion is..? I set up my HOTAS (X55) so the top and bottom hats on my throttle control are my radiators (oil and water) for all planes. Some planes don't allow this because they historically where buttons, not dials, like the BF110, so I use the little thing button under the hat for special planes like the BF110 or La5.

I set up everything in "expert" mode and do things manually. Yes, there is an orange bubble showing but that is because I did map the same button with (LAlt or RAlt) plus the said key command for use with each engine individually. Appreciate your taking the time to try and help. I'm not sure what the confusion is..? Well you see that is the reason I'm confused. I too do the same as you. I've got the same button mapped for the "water radiator shutters" for my LAGG-3, Yak etc. but the only plane this does not work for is the Pe-2. That is why I've been posting wondering whether I'm doing something wrong or maybe a bug? I just don't know at this point anymore. I've basically tried everything to get this damn thing mapped. So far it is a no-go.
1CGS LukeFF Posted April 21, 2016 1CGS Posted April 21, 2016 The Pe-2's water radiators were controlled by switches - that's why the axis commands don't work with it.

Luke, I can map two buttons on my CH Throttle Quadrant to "Water radiators shutters control axis" and they open and close the shutters. I wonder if maybe certain Hotas hardware doesn't work with this key bind?

I guess I'll experiment more on this. I'm using a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog by the way.
Trooper117 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I'm using the Warthog with a Saitek throttle quadrant... the radiator shutters for the Pe-2 I have mapped to one of the levers on the quadrant. It works fine with that.
Gl-l0st Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) That is what I'm beginning to think. Hhmm...I have tried other buttons but maybe I'll try again and pick out some simple button. I guess I'll experiment more on this. I'm using a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog by the way. I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog as well and I can't get it to map R_CNTRL+UPARROW for the BF109 and the FW190 elevators, I'm using the Thrustmaster script editor to do the mapping. Everything I have tried just doesn't work except if I use a script which presses the arrow key, unfortunately this makes the trim very imprecise when operated. I have noticed that a pulse command from the Hotas isn't detected by IL*2 BOS after you get into the cockpit. The key mapping settings screen detects a pulse but then ignores it once your inside the cockpit. I'm wondering if this is the same issue your having with the PE2 water radiators, I don't have the BOM yet so I can't validate this. Edited April 23, 2016 by Gl-l0ST
Drawbar Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 (edited) Using CH Throttle Quad; Works. Click that square on the right side, the define axis button and see if your control is moving the axis in game; Like so... If it moves there it should work in the game. Hope that helps. Btw don't remember which is which, but one of the Pe-2 seems not to have an oil shutter adj. Edited May 7, 2016 by Drawbar
