A simple video of a LaGG-3 take off, a Split S, and a loop.

I think that the LaGG-3 is just utterly fantastic. I have to fess up that I am really not that great at landing the Lagg-3, as in, most of the time I try to land I break a landing gear or I break a wing. Still, I am having a really grand time using the LaGG-3. A big thank you to the team for everything they have accomplished! I look forward to their future efforts, as I try to learn how to sim-fly the LaGG-3.   :salute: MJ

Nice video, but would have been more helpful if you could have talked use through it since people are having difficulty getting this of the ground. I always run out of runway and the plane is still on the ground regardless of me pulling back on the stick or whatever I do. Someone needs to put up a video of the exact procedure for use new guys here, because I am fast losing patience with this. Back to DCS for me until someone can talk use through this.

Rigsby,

Thanks!  I would not give up on the LaGG-3! Keep at her, man! Did you check out King Hrothgar's videos on this forum? He talks through some take off matters, landing tips, etc. I am not going to make any tutorials, until I can really discuss the LaGG-3 with any authority. Right now, I am trying to get a handle on consistently landing, without damaging stuff.   The LaGG-3 is going to beat me up for now, but I will eventually get a handle on her.

Set manual prop pitch in difficulty settings and set it to max, auto prop pitch doesn't appear to work.

Hi -

Make sure you have your prop pitch full forward after engine start.  That is the wooden handle "under the glory of the [throttle] lever" as it was phrased in the translation of the manual I posted the other week.

I set about 15 degrees of flaps (gauge is on the lower left side of the instrument panel, just left of the flap controls.  f lowers, shift f raises.

Next raise your view a little to look above the sight and below the canopy rails (pg up and down)  Back your view out (numpad -) so you can see off the nose in both directions.  I usually have the canopy open.

Run the power in gradually. I probably take 2 - 4 seconds to get to full power.  Expect to need left rudder, nearly all of it as the plane starts to roll.

There are about 4 forces trying to make the plane turn right.  Use left rudder to keep it going the way you want.  As soon as you see any movement either way, use rudder to stop and correct it. As you speed up you need less rudder so stay fluid on that control and give the plane what it needs.

Gradually the tail will lift off - don't force it.  Just let the tail fly when it is ready.

As the speed gets to ~180 - ~190 or so, you have plenty of sped to go flying.  Easy back very, very slightly on the stick.  Hit 5 to recenter your view, and put the crosshairs just a bit above the horizon.  Speed should be increasing, the ground should be getting farther away.  If those things are true, run in the gear (g) and retract the flaps.  Close the canopy and make gentle changes to pitch and roll until you get up around 250 or 260 kph.

Congratulations!

Also, try Mission 01.  For reasons that are a mystery, I found it impossible to take off in Mission 00.  I ran out of runway or ended up in the field on the right of the runway.

Take offs were easy in Mission 01.

Good luck.
