ZG26 Server - What is it all about?

Had a lot of fun flying with 216th, Dave and Brano and others! Had my first plane (bf109) kill in a P40 tonight, fellt good even though the celebration was short-lived (got killed by his two buddies shortly after). Too bad I did not record it

Did lots of sorties in Pe2 as well, but not hitting much. My level bombing needs more work.

Well that was a great test and gave me some more things to think about. First of all thanks to everyone who joined especially the French mob who turned up 'enforce' :D

 

The server seemed to handle it but I got one or two people mentioning lag, we were in a flight of 5 twins + escorts and had no issues whatsoever so it's a bit strange...maybe it is when players are joining and leaving the server.....if that is the case we wont have to worry about that when we do the co-ops.

 

If I get time to work on the DF map I will make the combat area a bit smaller, even with 40 people there were very few air kills until ZG26 went on a suicide Macchi mission. I think as a DF mission you need to move the two souther airfields and southern targets up a little bit so the combat area is more letter box shaped. For a Co-op it wont matter because both sides will have specific tasks to ensure there is a chance of contact. I will start work on co-ops first and come back to the DF mission design when I have time.

 

I also need to figure out how to lock these ridiculous nukes and one or two other mods....the targets are meant to be attacked en mass and a solo attack is not meant to end well but people can still suicide attack with a giant bomb and blow up half the target.....that is not what we want on this server

 

We are going to do a closed Co-Op on Wednesdays but I think I would like to still do something on the Sundays and maybe do a sign up with passwords and TS details given out......We had requests for the TS details in game but we were already flying so I couldn't give out details so this might work out well.

Nice flying gents

Quite a gang on red side hehe. Never saw five (or six?) kitties flying together. We tried to bomb the bridge but somehow it withstood 3 hits from 500kg bombs. Then we strafed arty position where we ended up in furball with blue guys. I was out of ammo and couldn't help much. Just ironing the sky and undercooling my Allison eventually. I ditched my kitty somewhere near our lines and walked back to nearest unit. We also did a strike with five peshkas on aerodrome. Nice bombing from dive and some strafing with MGs. I got hit by smtg from ground and started to lose fuel. Few kms before Vatulino AF I thought I'm done as my tank was running dry fast. Fortunately guys told me to check third fuel gauge. I didn't know there is one hehe. It was full so with newly acquired confidence I went for touchdown. There were four of us landing in sequence. At the end we stayed in pair with Myrio as rest of the guys left. We took ishaks and went after arty position. We spent long time looking for it,loitering around,but couldn't find it. My sight was fixed on the ground not taking care much about whats going on up there behind me. Then Myrio saw a contact but it was too late. BANG-BANG and my pilot was dead. Messer. Myrio tried to fight him but was damaged and ditched his ishak. He fired a flare to salute our vanquisher. Then we called it a night and switched to real world.

If there is time, I'll try to make few pics or maybe a video. I was recording few times during session.

Wow sounds really fun

 

While we waiting for people to turn up 3 of us did a nice 110 attack on the northern Dept. Then we flew some 88s and had a 110 plus 5 109s covering us which was very welcome! On our return we flew right over the Russian train at low level and got a little peppered by mg fire. We also flew a couple of low level 202 missions which ended badly lol but it was getting late and we just wanted some quick action.

 

What did you think of the airfield was it challenging enough for 5 of you? I attacked that on my own and also in a group of 3 Il2s and it gave us a very hard time

AF attack was not so hard to execute,as we didn't level bomb,but went for dive,where flak is not as precise and deadly. We also silenced AA quite fast so there wasn't much shooting at us after short time. We noticed that stationary aircrafts like Ju88 were not counted by server as destroyed.

If you fly organised attack on AF, things are easier as flak has to distribute its attention to many targets increasing global chances to survive. We did the same in kitties attacking arty position. We silenced the flak fast and then raged over there freely (untill messers came down on us)

Fly together,organize your attack and success will come. Fly solo ( so-low) and you are good as dead hehe.

We noticed that stationary aircrafts like Ju88 were not counted by server as destroyed.

Well, they didn't show up in after action report. In our raid on AF I damaged a hangar which was recorded as 1 building destroyed. Then I strafed several Ju88 stationeries. I got 2 or 3 of them, but they were not shown in report. I think other guys had same experience. Stationeries didn't count in somehow. I can check that out this evening if your server is up

We will be starting a regular Wednesday closed co-op this week so the DF server will be locked on Wednesdays

 

We may have some space for some reliable LW pilots depending on the invitations already sent.

 

We also need some regular and reliable bomber guys and maybe have a slot for a Jabo unit but we're not sure yet.

 

Please PM me if you think you would be interested in this but we want people who will try to turn up every week and take this seriously, I dont want to do open sign ups yet but individuals are welcome to get in touch especially if you enjoy bombing things.

But before anyone asks NO! there is no Yaks, La-5s 190s or G2s lol

 

There are some really cool matches of aircraft with this plane set, I think the F4 might be needed to be more competitive with the Mig (and the F4 was present in numbers at Moscow) but I don't want to turn it in to one of those kind of servers where everyone just flies the best aircraft....that's why co-ops will be the way forward

The E-7 and F-2 are fully competitive with the Mig-3.

 

BTW I like the idea of limiting planesets to the map in question - Stalingrad for 42, 41 birds, Moscow for 41 birds only. Surely this should be the way it is once BOM goes out of beta.

It's a PVP co-op

 

For Wednesday we only need LW as we have the French squads flying VVS but I would like to do another one on Sundays which we will need people from both sides. Once I get a bunch of different missions built I will be happy to run the server as a co-op any night all people need to do is ask and organise  

 

I might do more experimental missions on Sunday to see what people think of them for example people may complain on a regular co-op if there was overcast cloud but I thought it might be fun to have a massive fleet of E7s and 110s on a low level bombing raid with the VVS defending.

 

Would you fancy flying a Ju-88 with us?

Some changes were made today and I've improved some of the targets.

 

The main change is the AAA (I have switched to Coconut's flak groups which should be lighter on the server and everyone's PC) so I would be interested to know if it feels harder, easier or the same. There might be the odd surprise out there now as well

We might be able to squeeze a couple of groups in especially if you like LW. Ideally you will be either a squad or a group of people who fly a lot together and can fly all aircraft, we might have some Jabo roles available.. If so PM me and I will see what I can do.

Here's the new Russian flak

 

Feedback will be appreciated once the server goes back up....the 37mm seem to be like snipers and just take your wing off if they hit you so I removed them and replaced them with 4-5 MGs. I want ground attack to be exciting and scary but having your wing blown off every time is neither and just annoys everyone. These targets are still supposed to be dangerous and may get beefed up again.

In RL it was estimated that it took nearly 1000 rounds of 37mm per aircraft shot down by the M1939 61-K from what I have read and that sure doesn't sound like the gun we have right now! I will be testing the German side soon, they do still have the 20mm but less of them because the M-34 is only a single barrel gun. So basically 4-5 MGs on Russian targets and generally 2x20mm +1xMG34 on the German ones. If this seems imbalanced let me know but only after actual testing. An alternative is that I can give the Russians 20mm flak as well.

Great session indeed. Thank you guys for yet another entertaining online experience. That's me in that Ju88 losing right wing. Looking thru bombsite,target in crosshair,bombs awaaaaay...and in the same moment world in that tube starts to spin wildly. For the moment I thought to myself:"damn,did I press some self-destruction button instead of bomb release?" :D

Lots of fun yesterday, especially on the second flight which was quite a fast paced one for us.

We were quite amazed by the speed you got the 6 Bf110 into formation after take off. We took off just about a minute later but even at 500kph we only caught up when you were already climbing prior to the run... and then saw those migs lurking above clouds.

Yep,Zerstoerer mission was very juicy. I forgot to set timers for my bombs and after strafing some flak position I dropped those eggs on the target buildings just to be thrown into spin by their blast wave. All saints were with me as I managed to put my 110 on the belly and observed the furball from the ground

After bombing Klin and losing Brano we have just finished the bomb run on our second target.Our single long range fighter escort engages and forces one of the Migs low. These Migs were lower than us so were at a disadvantage chasing the fast 88

 

The second Mig engages but gets a face full of MG and has to run for home

 

 

20Km from our airfield we think we are in the clear until we hear the dreaded sound of our gunners opening up. Within second 3 Mig-3s come charging down at high speed. Loch is instantly killed.

One minute we were elated and thinking we had hit two targets for only one loss the next we had lost 50% of our bomber flight with most of the remaining bombers damaged to some degree....War is hell!
