Hi,

Has anyone experienced a condition with TrackIR5 where if you attempt to track another aircraft the view will suddenly switch to another unrelated view? Sometimes the view will also tilt 15 degrees from the horizontal upon returning to look straight out from the cockpit. I use the hat clip and it only happens when I use my glasses which I need. I have been in touch with natural point and tried various settings to no avail. The glasses that I use are not particularly reflective and I have tried both pair with the same results.  We seem to be out of options at this point. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Does it happen when you turn your head towards one of the extremes? Maybe the camera is losing sight of the sensors. I would look at the camera view in the TrackIR software (where you can see what the camera sees) and make sure that when you turn your head he camera still has unobstructed line of sight with all sensors. Also try to make sure no bright lights are shining on you or anything behind you.

Edit- also in the camera view in the software, see if any reflections from your glasses show which may interfere.

Or anything warm like glass warmed up by the sun behind you.

I had the exact same thing you describe above.

In the end the simple solution was to close the curtain on the window behind me when simming.

Hope you can figure it out.

Thanks Engrish and Bando for the comments. Using the camera view I can see that when I lift my head slightly I get random red spots that appear on the graph plot. The camera is picking up on my glasses and causing this disturbance. I will have to see what can be done to dial this out. The other parameters seem to check out ok.

Maybe a lightsource shining at some angle that it reflects in the receiver?

Hope it's something simple.

I wear glasses too, no problems here.

Maybe the active version of TIR will help you, the one with the clip.

Sounds like a classic light source maybe coming from a nearby window and your TIR is catching the reflection of the sun on your wire clip. I very much doubt it has anything to do with your glasses unless they`re polarised (mirror shades). You need to do a bit of sleuthing.

When your track ir flips out:

1.Immediately see if the sun is suddenly shining more brightly through your window. The window does not need to be right in front of you it could happen even at the extemes of your peripheral vision. So if the window is anywhere to the back or sides it could happen. Does the TIR behave itself when the brightness of the sun dims or is obscured? Then it`s the sun.

2. Check for any bright light source that maybe reflecting off mirrors or other reflective material and causing this.

4. Once you have a good idea what the light sources are that`s affecting it, then adjust your TIR on your monitor slightly (possibly your seating position too) so it doesn`t catch the sun and go into your settings and adjust how much of your head is being caught by the TIR and adjust.

5. If all else fails, a, Draw the curtians to your window.

b, Move your whole work desk 90 degrees left or right or even do a 180 to try and position yourself where the extra light source cannot conflict with your TIR, although you shouldn`t need to do all that.

My place let`s in a lot of sun and the TIR 5 is very good at handling it, however, sometimes when I turn my head looking and the sun does one of its `extra-shiny moments` (the rays of the sun shines right onto the window), the TIR will catch it and that`s when I get the view flipping while dogfighting just like you describe.

c. Hit F12 to recentre the view if it goes off angle when back to looking forward.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions seafire and bando. I am also beginning to believe that it may well be a random light source and associated reflection that is causing the problem. I am going to try some more tests to see if I can determine the source. Regards.

It is also possible to check the indicator on the TrackIR utility to look for additional sources of reflection or infra-red.

There is a gain setting that you can adjust too, which alters the sensitivity (be careful, if you adjust this).

Thanks for everyone's comments. They have been helpful during this process. Upon further testing with various types of glasses, light and dark room environment, distance from the camera etc., it seems as though the camera is picking up on my silver metal glasses frames when I lift my head slightly. I have another set of glasses with brown plastic frames and these do not show the extra red tracking dots on the camera view and it tracks normally. This seems strange insofar as other people report few or no complaints from wearing glasses. I think what I may need is more light filter although I am already close to the maximum indicated. Regards
