III/JG2Gustav05 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I just want to share my opinion with the MG81 on the dorsal of Ju88 here. the fire rate is high according to the spec, 50% higher than MG15. no need to change the magazine, those are good. but I cannot find that it is more efficient than MG15, it's not as accrute as MG15, I can see the tracer goes everywhere, especialy the cross hair is too wide to make a decent aimming to the target. and the gun overheats too fast.the effective range is about 600-700m, longer than that the hits can only be like a door-knocking. All in all I don't think I can have a better chance to down a intercepter with MG81than old MG15.

All in all I don't think I can have a better chance to down a intercepter with MG81 than old MG15. There's a very good reason why militaries went away from rifle-caliber MGs for their aircraft - they just were not that effective any more. You cannot expect the MG81 to be a vast improvement on the MG15.
Dakpilot Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 MG15 barrel length 690mm MG81 '' '' 475mm Maybe some explanation of accuracy? Mg81 designed to be cheaper and quicker to manufacture, not sure if that is relevant at all Cheers Dakpilot
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 All in all I don't think I can have a better chance to down a intercepter with MG81than old MG15. Of the few Ju-88s I've encountered in my P-40 so far, every single one that managed to score a hit on the nose of my P-40 either disabled my oil system or damaged the cooling. Either way, I had to immediately run towards the airfield. Heinkels are slower and easier to intercept, and as far as I can say they dont pose such a threat to my aircraft as Ju-88 with its MGs seems. I dunno, but I'm a bit scared of those MG-81s

Regarding muzzle velocity, MG15, 755 m/s, MG81, 705 m/s (sS ammo), 760, 785 or 790 m/s, depending on ammo type. what ammo type do we have in this sim?
