1./ZG1_ElHadji Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) So here is the deal. I am a 46 year old flight sim nerd and WWII history buff from Sweden that has been flying from my armchair on a regular basis since Falcon 3.0. Today I spend most time in Il-2 BoS/BoM and DCS but I have logged a lot of hours in sims like FS9, FSX and X-plane 10 as well. But combat flight simulation is what I like best. Most of the time I fly SP missions in Il-2 or do some dogfighting online with buddies on a private server. But I am thinking of taking things a step further an joining a squadron to get some more immersion online. I am thinking about becoming a Kampfgeschwader pilot since I love flying Ju 87, Bf 110 and Ju 88. But since I don't have unlimited time (eventhough I usually spend perhaps 4-6 hours a week on average) to fly since I am a CEO by day and have a family, I kind of hesitate to join up somewhere. I did try it with DCS and ended up with a team of armchair pilots that enforced a stricter regiment than when I served in the Royal Swedish Marines during the Cold War. And as it turned out, none of them had any real military experience which kind of made the whole deal silly. I play PC games to have fun, not you be yelled at by a wannabe "Lieutenant". What I am looking for is good group of people that use communication, formation flying (something that I currently suck at) and play with a decent level of realism (coordinated takeoffs etc) but doesn't put on a German Luftwaffe uniform and pretend they are real soldiers in the comfort of the basements. Because of my real life commitments I can't keep up with a strict practice schedule etc (I have been playing first person shooters on a competitive level so I know all about this kind of stuff) and mandatory gaming nights. Of course I am willing to practice but I can't sign up for a schedule. I have full respect for the crews that does this, but I don't wan't to ruin their experience by not showing up every Sunday. I can also live without military-like discipline on my sparetime. In terms of gameplay I like coop vs AI but of course more competetive multiplayer sounds fun as well. Communication in English is not a problem eventhough I'm Swedish (I also have some German knowledge but don't speak fluently). I use both Teamspeak 3 and Discord for voice communication (Discord is actually better than Teamspeak in my opinion). I am on GMT+1 time. Question is: is there a suitable Kampfgeschwader or Zerstörergeschwader out there that would fit my preferences and that are willing to help an old git with his formation flying skills? Cheers! 56RAF_Pod Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) I'm sure there are KGs that want to take you on, but if you want to have some bomber fun without joining a squadron, join us (or rather them, since I always fly VVS) during the Friday Night Bomber Flights. FNBF is a continuous campaign that runs one mission a week and it is always really great! The Luftwaffe flies with a lot of nice, disciplined people so you will find some like minded people for sure. 216th_Xenos Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 As Pod said, fly the FNBF or the SNBF (Saturday) and just enjoy casually flying with people. Squadrons often fly on there so it's a great way to jump in amongst them and 'discover' if that isn't too childish a term. 1

A lot of squadrons participate and I am sure they need more KG pilots. The 111 and now the 88 need more pilots. Anyway, it's a great way to meet some squads and figure out if they are what you want/like.
707shap_Srbin Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) ...... Question is: is there a suitable Kampfgeschwader or Zerstörergeschwader out there that would fit my preferences and that are willing to help an old git with his formation flying skills? ....... Cheers! Hi! 1. Well, we have already a retired Sub-Mariner from Sweden within 1./ZG1 2. Well, You may try to fly as a Zerstörer pilot with us. We are going to participate in INTERACTIVE WAR, wich will be Saturday evenings events. But I may note, that being a bomber pilot and being a heavyfighter pilot is a veeeery different thing. Zerstorer (heavy fighter) is interceptor(anti-bomber fighter)+assault pilot+divebomber pilot in the same time He is always on the edge of the fight, surrounded by enemy fighters, diving in the heat of fureous anti-aircraft artillery fire. In the same time, Zerstorer pilots were not so individual, glamour and glorious as Jagdflieger (fighter pilots). All I can say - each pilot of ZG1 has it's own aircraft with unique VbKz (Unit aircraft code). And S9+EH is free at the moment Edited April 5, 2016 by 1./ZG1_Panzerbar 1
1./ZG1_ElHadji Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 As you can tell from my brand new signature I ended up in a squad tonight. Thanx to everyone that provided feedback and contacted me with invites etc. Hope to see you in the skies!

Now I expect to see you on the battlefield in IN WAR, FNBF, and SNBF so that I can harass you in my Yak, Mig, or LaGG... depends on our numbers for the day. S!
Gambit21 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I would consider getting back into a squad if Hyperlobby came back. I miss shooting down curmudgeony Beowulf in CoOps in my trusty dusty I16...'sniff'

216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 The ZG crowd is dangerous. ...but nothing a full ShVAK load can't handle Banter aside, what happened to this particular machine? PS: ElHadji, add the underscore after 1./ZG1 in the squadron tag section of the website, otherwise it doesn't separate it from your username.
707shap_Srbin Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 ...but nothing a full ShVAK load can't handle Banter aside, what happened to this particular machine? 1. Well.. Here is report about Bf110 from SKG210/ZG1 during Battle of Moskow: REPORT About fighting work Bryansk Front VVS With 18 AUGUST ON DECEMBER 30, 1941 .... I. tactics of ENEMY AIR FORSE Since the beginning of December at the Bryansk Front marked mainly aircraft of type ME-110. Apparently, the plane ME-110 is the best machine to fly in cold weather. On 12/01/41, at the Bryansk area marked by mostly planes ME-110, which are based at the airfield Naryshkin (Orel-West) .............. On airplanes, the ME-110 aircrew most well-prepared. During the battle, using all aerobatics. At every moment of attack create a position for shooting from any firing point. ........... In December, the ME-109 aircraft at the front almost do not appear. Retreat ground forces along the entire front is covered mainly aircraft Me-110. 2. Its derelict Bf110 from I./ZG1 on Rostov-on-Don airfield, found by soviet troops in early 1943. 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I've seen that report, the -110 is a pretty interesting beast when flown right. I'm happy there are so many units exploiting this aircraft in all its functions
