Returning IL-2 Player! Multiplayer Population?

Hey all, I used to play a lot of IL-2 back when 1946 was the goto version on hyperlobby. Eventually I got really sick of the meh-ness of the Thrustmaster Warthog, and there wasn't really many alternatives that I felt had everything I wanted. 

 

Well my Mk.III Black Mamba should be arriving soon so I'll be jumping back in, and I was wondering, on BOS/BOM how active is the multiplayer? Do I need both BOS and BOM to get the most of the multiplayer?

Active enough....and you can only fly in one server at a time

 

The main expert ones are Wings of Liberty, Fighting Legends and 72AG_DED plus there are some co-ops that get run.

 

What stuff do you like flying?

In your time zone there is always one or two well populated server in the evenings but some of them don't need many people online to be fun. Fighting Legends only needs about 20 people if not less since the map is small. DED is good with 20-40 and WOL has the biggest map I believe but that's the one that tends to be the most full.

 

Plenty to chose from and they're all different

No, you don't need both content packs but I would suggest buying the premium versions of both products if you are able.

Wings of Liberty is the most populated full real server.

 

BOS works great if you can afford only one and is pretty well the default game for most servers.

 

The Yakety Yak-1,LaGG-3 and LA-5 are bloody pretty good fighters to fly in my opinion.
