BoM campaign: Bug or feature?

I am flying the BoM campaign as a Ju 88 pilot and I have discovered something odd. During my last four missions my wingmen RTB as soon as I give them the order to form up after takeoff. It has also happend without me giving any formation orders. It worked fine in the first ten or so missions I flew but now they report "[callsign] Out of ammo, returning to base!" just after takeoff. On the last mission I flew one of the planes stayed but the other RTB'd. This means that I have to fly the missions pretty much "under-staffed". Question is if this is a bug or a feature?

 

I am flying Full length flights in Expert mode in case it is relevant.

I have the same problem in BOS with the Heinkel and the Stuka. Sometimes they crash to the ground on their RTB. I stopped flying them. Maybe I`m tobad and they don`t want to fly with me, must be the "I" of AI.

Have that on the LaGG-3 sometimes. The solution is to not tell them to form up until they're done taking off and leveling out (2-3 minutes after take off), otherwise they crash into trees and all kinds of weird stuff.

But I have seen them already forming up and then, sometime in the first five minutes, they report, one after the other, that they are out of ammo and return to base. And the crashes are on their turn or way back to base, it is no problem with leveling out after takeoff.

they should be able to form up without any commands, at least that's what it's like for me.

But as far as I saw til now, they fly always left handed formation, a formation, I never saw before BOS. I want them to fly V or right handed, so I have to order them.

Exactly... And I want to use V formation for maximum cover.
