Rigsby Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I was just wondering if anyone else's game starts paused? I have to press the P key to unpause the game each time I start it now, but when I first played the game I don't think it started paused. I was pressing buttons at the beginning of the game to try to figure them out at first, so have I pressed something that has caused this? Thanks!
FuriousMeow Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Yep. RoF does that way too for SP. So you can get situated and ready without scrambling for centering keys for TrackIr or anything else. Obviously MP will not.
Finkeren Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 It's a leftover from RoF. RoF used to have very long load times, which have now been largely fixed. Starting the mission with a briefing screen and sim on pause meant, that you could leave the computer, while the mission loaded without risk of missing the squad take off. At least that's my rationalisation. In any case I'm now so used to the feature, that I automatically hit the "unpause" button, when starting other flight sims.
FuriousMeow Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 The long loading times were between loading the mission after clicking "begin mission" and the hangar. It was a very quick jump from the hangar to the aerodrome. I'm quite certain it's so you can get yourself ready for the mission, being SP and all, and give you time to get prepared for the mission - especially if the aerodrome is under attack.
Finkeren Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 The long loading times were between loading the mission after clicking "begin mission" and the hangar. It was a very quick jump from the hangar to the aerodrome. That's because even before you hit "begin mission" the sim is fully loaded and running. It is simply put on pause. Hitting "begin" simply removes the briefing screen and gives you control of the aircraft.
FuriousMeow Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Yes, I know - that's why I'm saying that the starting off in pause wasn't due to the long loading times because you were loaded into the hangar section which is a huge pause until you actually hit begin and then is an instant jump to cockpit.
Finkeren Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Yeah, that's propably a more reasonable explanation I just remember rationalising this way, when I went to brew a cup of tea, while RoF loaded back in the day.
