I wish I had.. THAT plane

I know most combat sims are fairly fighter centered, but a whole whopping lot of planes have had important roles are just plain interesting.. What would be your non-fighter aircraft of the eastern front that you´d wish for to be modeled?

some of the iconic planes as suggestions:

Henschel Hs-129

Focke Wulf FW189

Po-2

Su-2

Tu-2

Henschel Hs-123

Henschel Hs-126

my favorites would be the Su-2 even though it wasn´t seen as a widely successful combat aircraft it was quite an advanced design for it´s time and the FW-189 because well.. it´s somewhere between beautiful and ugly

It's on your list already but i have to go for the Hs 129 definitely. I just want the Panzerquacker

The Rama and the Su-2 are two very needed aircraft to flesh out a proper Eastern Front. Both were light aircraft that could achieve great results if employed properly. The Su-2's biggest enemies in the end were probably the Il-2, Il-4 Pe-2, which filled the ground attack role well in the first half of the war. The ShB and Su-4 proposals were promising but in the end redundant due to these existing designs.

Can't decide between the 2 so I take both the Hs-123 (we definetly need biplanes in this sim) and the Hs-129. I'd also love a Bf-110G with Bk 3.7 for tank hunting.

Hs-129.... - Maybe we should be grateful that we won't be flying it. Underpowered and cumbersome...

Only 25 were delivered with the Bordkanone 7,5 which is probably what people would like to shoot, and only from June -44 onwards.

I did not know that Fw-189 was used as a bomber. Or at least in that picture it is bombing.

I think two racks with 2x50kg each. Not much really.

Okay, then maybe we still keep the Ju-88 in bomber duties even if the Fw-189 comes around.

That's messed up. Isn't that the "Princess Leia Disguise Helmet" as the cockpit?

he Fw-189 C entered the tank buster program together with the Hs-129 A desing. It's airframe was combat proven but for survivability sake it had to be armoured. The greenhouse was obviously not suitable and thus replaced with a cramped, armoured cabin housing 2 people.

It was a serious contender given both aircraft had about the same performence (both used weak Argus engines) and it had the benefit of being equpiped with a rear gunner. However, the Hs-129 had a higher payload and better armour protection, although it's flight characteristics left a lot to be desired.

Fw-189c is ugly as hell  .

Hs-129 is not beautiful either but looks like a serious machine. Would be very interesting addition.

That is a weird looking thing. Interesting design. It seems that I don`t know a much about recce planes in WW2. I googled this and there were only prototypes/small patch of BV141.

Agreed on this. Didn`t von Richthofen ask to start producing these again as late as 1943? Have to be a pretty decent plane for it`s purpose

The I-153 is a must too. Ah, fond memories of FB servers in that little thing. Last time I flew one me and another pilot took two Chaikas and tangled with five 109s and one 110. We didn't get hit a single time for about 15 minutes, until I pulled a split-S too low and crashed.

I'd like the Storch and the Ju-52 most of all.  I'd really like to fly medivac, spotting or proper supply missions to add some badly needed variety to this genre.  I'm burned out by the generic fighter and bomber scene.

I'm with you on the Ju-52 and Storch.

I can't believe that no-one has mentioned seaplanes yet. Any of Heinkel He 115, Dornier Do24, Blohm & Voss Bv138 and the Soviet Beriev MBR-2 would do but especially the He115. I really hope that whatever scenario comes after BoM has some sea on it. Don't really mind where, but if still sticking to the Eastern Front then these would be handy for Murmansk or the Black Sea.

Now if we're talking land-based birds I've always liked the old Junkers Ju86P. A good one for Stalingrad too, along with the Fw200 Condor - and a flyable Ju52!

Cheers.

I'll have to go with the Po-2. Hugely important aircraft that went into service in massive numbers in a great variety of roles.

Otherwise It'd have to be the Su-2 for the current plane set followed by the IL-4 and Tu-2.

This.

But, I would also like the Hs-129, and maybe a lend-lease plane or two for the Allies.

Maybe the A-20B/C , P-39.

The Li-2 would not go amiss either.

Very used, it would be a great addition to fly them in the multiplayer with proper objectives!

The variation in terms of singeplayer missions is simply not good enough. At least not if we want to have some sort of relative realism. I restarted the campaign yesterday to fly it as a He-111 pilot, Ended up with a rage quit after having limped back my damaged bomber to the home field after a  successful bombing run. All bombers returned home, my crew survived and I belly landed on my home base since the plane was badly shot up and the last working engine died on final. And my in-game reward for this achievement? ZERO XP because I "crashed". A total immersion breaker if you ask me.  I'd much rather fly VIP's in a Fw 200 or do some artillery spotting in a Fi 156...

I can´t help to notice that some plane-combinations would make great "addon" packs, like

Po-2 and Fi 156 Storch

Li-2 and Ju 52

Hs-129 and Il2 M

Hs1-23 and I-153

Fw-189 and SB-2

that would probably quite an economic viable idea to release some "one from each side" addon packs to flesh out the scenarios we have in a balanced and fun way.

Agreed, but I would put the Rama with the Su-2 instead, and the SB with the Do-17.

The Yermolayev Yer-2 was a long-range Soviet medium bomber used during World War II. It was developed from the Bartini Stal-7 prototype airliner before the war. It was used to bomb Berlin from airbases in Estonia after Operation Barbarossa in 1941. Production was terminated in August 1941 to allow the factory to concentrate on building higher-priority Ilyushin Il-2 ground-attack aircraft, but was restarted at the end of 1943 with new, fuel-efficient, Charomskiy ACh-30B aircraft Diesel engines.

Although designed as a long-range medium bomber it was flown on tactical ground-attack missions during the Battle of Moscow with heavy losses. The survivors were flown, in ever dwindling numbers, until August 1943 when the last examples were transferred to schools. However, the resumption of production in 1943 allowed the aircraft to resume combat operations in April 1945. The Yer-2 remained in service with Long-Range Aviation until replaced by four-engined bombers at the end of the 1940s.

Junkers JU 188

The first prototype Ju 188 flew in the spring of 1942 with BMW 801MA radial engines, and was followed by the second prototype in January 1943. The performance warranted production orders, but it was stipulated that the design must be such that either BMW 801 or Jumo 213 engines could be fitted without modifications to the airframe, so that if one type of engine became unavailable it would not affect production. Deliveries of Ju I88E-1 aircraft with 1,600 hp (1193 kW) BMW 801ML engines began in February 1943, and 283 had entered service by the end of the year. ATG, Leipzig and Siebel/Halle opened further lines at the beginning of 1944. Designation of the first model with the Jumo 213A-1 was Ju 188A-2, and with water-methanol injection, its engines were boosted from 1,776 hp (1324 kW) to 2,240 hp (1670 kW) for take-off. The Ju 188A-3 was a minor variant, with nose radar and the ability to carry two torpedoes beneath the wing.

Total production of all Ju 188 variants reached 1,076, of which more than half were reconnaissance variants. Probably the most unusual operator was France's Aeronavale, which ordered 12 Ju 188Es just after the war. These were built at Toulouse by SNCASE, from German components, and were used for test purposes.
