What?!??

Where did you hear this rumour? Details Dak, details ;)

Great news if it's true, very exciting!

VERY interesting. I hope you are right.

I did infact read it on the internet..... but from a reputable source.  :) I am inclined to believe

don't want to get anyone in trouble, but it was too good news not to share, we all need a bit of positive news now and again

consider it as reliable as one of the "patch is coming'' type speculation threads  ;)  ;)

I'll take it, thanks for the news!

Lot's of good stuff happening around here

Positive results regarding how the game improves with it? Or positive as in, its getting implemented just fine but has no impact on the cureent game, just future compatibility with other tech?

Posted

it would be very surprising if the introduction of 64-bit would not improve the performance.

Positive re performance

i don' think we will see 64 bit before June or July. they said they made great progress but it didn't sound like they're very close to being ready

Posted

I was expecting 64-bit at the end of the year if everything goes well.

So, to me soon is within few months. Probably I don't have to bash my keyboard :D

From dev diary 64

"Fifth, we made significant progress in moving to 64-bit executable. We can't guarantee that it will be available soon, but it is looking good. This should greatly increase the sim stability and open the way for increasing texture detail and supporting of VR devices in the future, such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive."

No set date, but hey at least they are working on it, will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Thanks Dak! I hope it will be soon perhaps in two more weeks

If it would solve alot of the crashing issues in one go it kind of makes sense if they prioritize it, esp if they saw good initial results.

People have big mouths. 64 bit is in testing and some early beta reports are positive regarding performance, but more testing needs to be done to confirm anything. I haven't had a chance to test yet myself so I can't confirm anything.

Jason,do you plan public beta testing of 64bit executable?

Thanks

Thanks

i'm no expert but that seems like a good idea (at the right point in time of course) a larger testing group with a whole bunch of different hardware configurations will surely uncover most bugs

I don't think there will be a public beta per se. I wouldn't get too excited until we have more time with it internally.

OK,thanks for answer Jason. I was just thinking of way how my other favourite simulator of trucks runs usually a long period of voluntary beta test of its to-be released patch. Good luck with 64bit ;)

Just think of every update as public beta which because of how we do things they essentially are.

Great news ! Take your time to fine tune the engine: this is the best promises ever for the future of BOS.

Hope it will also be a definitive take off for this Sim  !!!

Also hope it will the end of the optimisations issues like blinking skins, contact visibility distance limited to 10 km, performance, etc... Addressing performance in priority like you said is such a good news, a better news indeed compared to texture details or even smallest kind of details we see on ground at the cost of bad performance in flight !

Keep up the good work ! 64 bits rocks

Maybe they're doing this so that we can fly over Moscow? Maybe performance is too bad in the current engine for this to be possible. Do we know yet if we will actually get the full flyable Moscow city in the map, or if it will just be in the distance?

If nothing else, this thread proves the old adage "don't blink, you might miss something." It really does seem the development of this sim has accelerated dramatically in the last six months.

Moscow itself was never to be able to be flown over. It was always, and will continue to be, in the distance. 64bit has nothing to do with it. 64bit was inevitable, they spoke of it early on in the development but the actual release of BoS itself was priority.

Can we play 64 bits and keep dx9 for example?? I am not sure if my vga is dx11 or 12.

Well that's disappointing. I did enjoy flying over London in CoD. This engine is more beautiful though, so I was hoping we would be able to experience the same over Moscow.

Expect the plan will be for BOM final release to be 64-bit (and perhaps always was...?)

But those comments about beta testing - is there a possibility we may get it in next update with JU88?!

Posted

i hope not...that would probably delay the release of the 88 by a lot

They just livestreamed last weeked showing the devs flying thr mig3 over moskow. It probably wont make it to the BOM release but all the assets are there. I wish i had a link but im posting from my phone.

maybe when 64 bit is in a live release...or they really don't want us to bomb the Kremlin :D

I have yet to see the livestream but I thought the rendering was such that Moscow was supposed to be viewed only from afar. Unless there has been secret development of the city map as well, I'm with FMeow in that we probably will not get overflights even with 64 bit.

I also expect the beta testing and bug crushing will take more time than a simple twin engine bomber does. Depending on when they started the testing 64 bit is likely further off than the Ju88.

So as to not be a complete Debbie Downer, I think the map will be excellent either way and flying adjacent will be quite pleasant and beautiful.

Lots of supposition in this thread. Maybe we should all just chill and wait for some announcements.

Oh, wait.............flight sim board. Carry on   :salute:  :salute: :salute:

Although this is the 3rd thread about it already, thx for the update Jason. As far as I'm concerned, better performence and a stable running game is moer improtant to me than a new theatre or aircraft and probably the key in expanding the sima's content and player base.

Saw the live stream and it even showed that they had micro strutters running the game on their machine, although it's always moer difficult to judge from a video. Anyway, looking forward to this very promising development.

This was what was bound to happen when 64bit news was released. If you look in the actual dev diary they say it has only just entered testing, they don't know what it will accomplish, etc. That means it is very early. That also most likely means it is in a different branch of testing than the incoming patch with the Ju88. Beta testing doesn't always mean it is next for release.

I saw the livestream, and I saw the flight over Moscow, that was already clarified that the map border limit had not been added at that time so that is the reason they were over Moscow.

DX9 works fine with 64bit. Years ago the original Far Cry, DX9, released an updated 64bit patch. It improved performance and allowed for additional graphical features. That was Far Cry, though, so do not expect graphical improvements here. It would actually be best to not speculate or anticipate, but just to wait for the 64bit patch as it has just begun testing.

Awww.... what's the harm is some fun speculation? Besides, it's a nice change of pace seeing genuine excitement here instead of bickering.
