EAF_51_FOX Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) Just to ask/debate about this feature/FX related to summer/autumn maps: do you think it is ok? I doubt a little about this, just right on winters maps IMHO, what do you think about? Edited March 22, 2016 by EAF_51_FOX 3
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I too like the idea - I also think rain/snow on the canopy would be great. I do recall a member of the team mentioning that it isn't as simple as ROF where the effects were applied to the virtual goggles of the pilot. 1
SR-F_Winger Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) like it too. In ROF they have awesome oil effect. If they could transition that to the canopys in BOS would be awesome. Same effect could be used to simulate water on canopy. War thunder simulates that pretty nice. I too like the idea - I also think rain/snow on the canopy would be great. I do recall a member of the team mentioning that it isn't as simple as ROF where the effects were applied to the virtual goggles of the pilot. I think it IS as simple but not as light on the performance i believe. But I am no gamedev. So i could be wrong. Edited March 22, 2016 by StG2_Winger

So i could be wrong. It is not that simple but I'm not going to argue with you to satisfy your desire to find arguments where there are none. The goggles allowed the filter to be laid over the entire screen - it was simpler to render than trying to fold your "rain sheets" around the canopy of various aircraft.
Dakpilot Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 There is also the element of opening cockpits and multi crew stations (rear gunner should have a different 'rain experience') to consider, which may or may not be an easy thing, I also like the idea, but at the moment with the current state of the game/sim, the performance hit may be unacceptable..with the possible performance/engine upgrade in the works perhaps that could make it more likely? Cheers Dakpilot
Matt Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Well, we already have oil effect on windscreens, shouldn't be impossible to use this system for condensation effects.
CZEforzamike Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Well, we already have oil effect on windscreens, shouldn't be impossible to use this system for condensation effects. and watter drops? when flying true clouds? 1
Finkeren Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Well, we already have oil effect on windscreens, shouldn't be impossible to use this system for condensation effects. Condensation yes, since it's just about having an extra layer of texture on the glass fade in and out similar to the oil leak effect. Rain and snow effects are a completely different matter. That would require both animated textures and some kind of distortion effect.
Matt Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 and watter drops? when flying true clouds?I don't see how that would work without substantial changes and additions.
BraveSirRobin Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I think it IS as simple but not as light on the performance i believe. But I am no gamedev. So i could be wrong. If it was simple they probably would have already done it.
SR-F_Winger Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 But I am no gamedev. So i could be wrong. but I'm not going to argue with you to satisfy your desire to find arguments where there are none. LOL? 1
Uufflakke Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I remember this question has been asked a couple of times before and at the same time the comparison with RoF. Which does have rain drops included. Loft said something about rain on canopy more than 2 years ago: "In terms of graphics rain falls not on the pilot's goggles, as in an open cockpit, but on the glass of the cockpit. We want to make this element true and interesting." http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/?p=9814 Still a bit cryptic though. Does it mean they work on it in some way and try get it as good as possible before they release this feature? Or does it mean íf they start working on rain drops it should be as good as possible? 1
EAF_51_FOX Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 And what you all folks think about the littles condensation drops we yet have into the glass cockpit? I think it is realistic in winter maps, but I doubt they IRL will stay flying in summer/autumn map -especially at 0-1.000 meters altitude. What do you think?
Wulf Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I think the idea's an interesting one but we need to remember that bandit spotting is already quite 'challenging'. We already incur a penalty when looking through the simulated canopy glass. This is much less of an issue for the Russian flyers of course because they have the ability to fly with an open canopy but for the LW types, there's no escaping the visibility hit. In some instances, adding additional layers of opacity could be a real tipping point. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done but it may well be one of those "be careful what you wish for" situations. I suppose it all depends on the implementation
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) -snip- You make a fair point but I play these games for the simulation - poor visibility in poor weather is a thing after all. Edited March 22, 2016 by Space_Ghost 1
EAF_51_FOX Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 (edited) No, no, may be I was not clear in my explanation: I would like to know about the ALREADY condensation "tears" that appears in the cockpit glass when you fly: I would like to debate with all of you if you think is "realistic" to have those tearing drops in summer/autumn maps because I think those condensation drops will be present just in the winter map player cockpit plane. Hope to have cleared my opinion/question. Edited March 23, 2016 by EAF_51_FOX

Matt Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I think he means the finger prints or scratches perhaps. There is no condensation effect.
Elem Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I think he means the finger prints or scratches perhaps. There is no condensation effect. If that's the case then this earlier post might shed light on the OP questions.... http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/19574-dirty-canopy-shoud-we-fire-russian-cleaners-your-support-nee/
EAF_51_FOX Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 look at 18.45 min of video for example... But the FX is however very clear ingame, at least in my one.
EAF_51_FOX Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 Hoopss! my fault!.. Yes those are definitely scratches.
