The Weekend Bomber Flights need you!

Recommended Posts

The Friday and Saturday Bomber Flights are probably the pinnacle of virtual warfare, excitement and realism brought by this simulator, and this weekend we need pilots to fill up slots for both teams.

How?

1. Pilots request a certain aircraft model to fly during the mission on this forum (either on this thread or in the eSports and Events section).

2. Pilots receive a briefing via PM outlining their flight's primary and secondary objectives, and containing some additional information for those who are flying for the first time.

3. 20-10 minutes before the event, pilots start to join the official Il-2 TeamSpeak (login information contained within the briefing). Here pilots can discuss the assignment, make any changes they feel are needed to the briefing, and make any final arrangements - this part is entirely up to the pilot, and you can always pitch in your ideas here.

4. Pilots join the server, begin start-up procedures from their native airfields and take-off, forming up around the airfield without proceeding to target yet.

5. 12 minutes after mission start, flights are allowed to proceed to target.

6. Enjoy! You are about to see 4 escort fighters warding off 6 interceptors from their group of 5 bombers, Stukas diving onto target one after another, carpet bombing formations, Il-2s executing the 'circle of death' while the land burns beneath them... Fun stuff, basically.

When?

20:00 (GMT)/15:00 (EST), Friday and Saturday.

If you are in doubt about when the events will happen in your timezone, leave a message and we can help you find out.

The Sign-Up Sheet

Before the mission start, all you need to do is indicate what do you want to fly, and on which event.

Damn Lucas, I have this same thread waiting to be posted from my PC at work, but you beat me to it. Good work.

I'd also like to point out that pilots who think they don't have enough skill or knowledge to participate in these events, nothing could be further from the truth. We don't mind helping people learn this sim and welcome new pilots constantly. So if your on the fence about joining the event, take a risk and try it out, all you can have is a good time.

For people looking to fly in a coordinate way, it's the place. It's like a small campaign, you will not encounter a furball. Everything is about making your mission in the best way you can. It's totally an another experience then going in a traditional server. You will become very subjugated with a high situation awarness ! For some whom looking for the old-coop way like old Il2 it's what looks like the most.

What matters is that somebody did it, p3zman

Adding to what you said, some personal points:

I entered my first FNBF two weeks into BoS when I was still trying to get the ropes of... flying, really. So far I've taken part in 4 of them, and all of them were very exciting missions. My first one was short (I was shot down in the first 45 minutes); the second one I survived until a third sortie, only being killed in a hilarious friendly fire incident; during the third one, flying with Manu as well, we managed to successfully fend off 9./JG52 in their Bf-109s to protect our bombers, even though we lost 6 LaGG-3s in two sorties to achieve that; the last one was a very tense and exciting flight deep into enemy territory where we bumped into every single enemy bomber and attack flight in the universe, with only two fighters to escort three bombers. Fortunately nobody had spare means to intercept us - we were sandwiched between some 16 enemy aircraft from all directions. No bombers were lost.

I flown with those guys in COD a lot. Fending them off is a success , doing so in LAGG´s is a miracle. Good work.

I cannot say my 3 sorties would be entirely successful, but it is the best of fun. I just love flying with a bunch of dedicated sim pilots, concentrating on making the best of what they can achieve in every mission. None excluded and very friendly.

I probably would not fly BOS at all if it was not for these events. Recommended  for all skill levels , you only need to know how to take off.

We had a guy a couple of weeks ago who had never flown a Yak before, and consequently, never attempted to take off in it. It took him a few tries and a couple Yaks but he got it. No attitudes, no complaining, we just orbited the airfield in formation, coached him through any questions he had, got him airborne, and now he likes the Yak a lot. Headed out to the CAP zone and engaged with some 109's escorting He-111's. He did great and was able to fly a few more sorties with us that day without getting killed. First time in a yak, new to BOS, and had a great time. That's what FNBF and SNBF are all about.

As an average RoF pilot I have a lot of multiplayer experience. As a poor BoS pilot I have not much multiplayer experience, never the less I would like to try this event today, hopefully not being too much of a liability to my team!!

Guys this week on SNBF http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/20918-saturday-night-bombers-flight/

We will put the effort on coordination from each leader of element during the campaign. We have already some leader of elements who are already planning their mission. If you want to participate go to the link above.

This week with the command and control put in place we will try to be more flexible about the action during the campaign.

Hope to see you with us !

This week for people interested we have 3 tanks on each side with plenty of actions ! If you want to try the tanks in a small campaign with ground support from above with communication between them.

I think I`ll have to try these sometimes when work and other stuff doesn`t interfere. Followed these threads and seems to be a lot of fun. Never played MP other than tanks, SP campaign has been my thing. I have to get some kind of a microphone apparently.

Zami, if by chance you don't manage to find a microphone you can still participate. You can still fly wingman and reply on the chat, following the leader's directions and calls through TeamSpeak. PWCG Online is the right definition of it

Well, my spoken english is so shitty that it doesn`t matter if I have a microphone or not

But I`ll get one and take part one of the missions when I have opportunity. Not going to make it at least for a couple of weeks. You guys have very good stuff going on there I must say!

Hello everyone.  I am here on behalf of the Saturday Night Bomber Flight crew.  We really need some Russian pilots on Saturday nights.  For the guys who like to fly bombers there is truely no better place to be than apart of a flight of 4-10 bombers flying into a target together escorted by 4-8 fighters.  The fighter guys looking to add a few notches to your belt...well come get it I dare you.  Your whimpy planes will be shredded trying to get to the bomber formations.  And if you do get through the cover well you are not going to be facing BLIND AI gunners.  Every bomber pilot I know when the shit hits the fan jumps in the gunner seat.  So if you are a good pilot and want to step up the realism and competition then come join us.

I think many people are intimidated and think they are not good enough yet to join such an event.  Well I must say that was my thought first as well.  But you will soon see that there are many levels of skill at this event.  Some guys wreck on takeoff, some get stuck in the mud...its no big deal.  We all have fun and thats the bottom line.  Last night i Kamakazied my 110 into a truck(not on purpose) and it was fun as hell.  no one was upset,  Think I scared my tail gunner who was a human(sorry MILO).  My point is this is for all of us, not just elite pilots.  Too add to this point, do not worry if you cannot navigate that well, you will follow your flight leader and over time you will pick up how to navigate yourself.  You will learn to navigate by accident and necessity when your flight leader  inevitably goes down in a fireball.

Which brings me to the point of comms.  This is the best part for NOOBS like myself.  You can ask why you keep burning that engine and what are the proper settings for rads and fuel, loadouts, anything you need or want to know.  This is the place to be for info and these guys are always there to help and answer any questions you have.  You will become a better pilot very quickly if you want too.  and if you are just looking for some casual fly time this is also a good place too come...look at a few flight plan pics and follow the plane in front of you to the objective.

I have had multiple encounters every single SNBF I have participated in.  I have seen or been contacted by enemy within 15-20 minutes in every single mission I have flown.  Was in a flight a few weeks ago and 6 out of 8 of us didn't make it home and 4 out of the 6 of them didn't make it home.  You will never find this scenario on regular public server.

Events like this make the community strong, and the game last.  Please come shoot down some German planes next week, I promise we will not shoot back at you...especially if you come straight at the bomber formation slow and at our six.  HEY 216 IM TALKING TOO YOU!!!! also if we need numbers many of us switch sides no problem.

Yeah, I missed the last two weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to make this weeks festivities. Still doing some navigation practice and learning to taxi/takeoff w/the PE-2.  Would be nice to try a bombing run. If not, then back in my trusty Yak.

All right chaps, news for this Friday's flight. The Luftwaffe has gathered a whole armada of 26 aircraft, while we only have 13 so far.

It must be said however that these 13 pilots are the finest airmen you could possibly find. Now, while quality matters above anything, we need some numbers too! Experienced pilots or new ones who have just learned how to take-off are invited and above all needed. Those with experience will be assigned the best wingmen out there, while new pilots will be under the unwavering protection of fighter and bomber aces.

For those unfamiliar with the types presented here, let me introduce them to you.

The Il-2 pilots of the 216th Mixed Aviation Division and 1.JaVA are fearless madmen who don't even blink when flying through a curtain of AAA fire into an area covered by twelve Messerschmitts.

Working in concert with these fine types, 55 IAP is the sword and shield of bomber and attack formations, and we escort them through the fires of hell to the waves of the Black Sea.

For Jordan I'll skip an introduction and let the facts speak for themselves - he shot down two Ju-88s last mission, showering them with rockets and cannon fire. It was such an attack that the gunners didn't stand a chance!

The 1.JaVA fighter pilots have a constant record of going up against whatever the enemy throws and shredding it to bits. Junkers, Heinkels, Schmitts, you name it - give them a plane with a working engine and a load of ammunition, and you will be counting crosses and bonfires on the ground.

Finally, there's Hauggy - arguably the most effective I-16 ace out there.

We have six Pe-2s, four LaGG-3s, one Yak-1 available today. Whichever you prefer, you will be in good company!
