unlikely_spider Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I have a question. Often when starting ground attack missions, the description says it is in a certain city, but the waypoint is not in the city. Should I be looking for the targets where the waypoint ends, or in the city in the description? Example:
LLv24_Zami Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Target area is close to the city mentioned. For some reason waypoint goes beyond the target. The planes turn back when reaching that WP.
unlikely_spider Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 I see, thanks! By the way, I'm enjoying PWCG a lot. It's helping me not be so horrible at flying/combat. Sometimes we'll go on patrol and never see anyone, for a nice ambient, peaceful mission. Other times we'll end up in a furball and horribly outnumbered behind enemy lines, ending with me frantically trying to escape while leaking fuel and trying to crash land on our side of the front. I never know what is going to happen!
LLv24_Zami Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Yes, it's great not to know what is going to happen
Willy__ Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) Look at this way: you come, look wheres the target and as you fly past it, you acess the situation, if its too rough and well defended, you just dive on the way back to drop your bombs and run the hell away from the target and towards your base, if its not defended you just loop back and strafe - rinse and repeat. Seeing this way its makes sense that the waypoint goes past the target, no ? Edited March 17, 2016 by Herr_Istruba

Maybe pass slightly from the side would be a better option in low altitude attacks.
ACG_pezman Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 You have a point there. But when flightpath is going directly over the target, enemy AA can be a problem. Maybe pass slightly from the side would be a better option in low altitude attacks. Well, when you are choosing a mission in PWGC, before you accept it, you are able to redefine the flight path. On ground attack missions I change the approach for the very reason you explain here. For some reason my flight lead likes to fly as slow as possible, very low, over the ground targets. One time he didn't make it, AA hit him on our assessing pass. So I firewalled it, got some alt, turned around and came in fast, dropped, and ran. Now I alter the flight path around the ground target to avoid this.
PatrickAWlson Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Thought I fixed that pathing problem. I'll look at it again. As p3zman says, you can change a waypoint location by clicking on it over the map and dragging it.
