Y-29.Silky Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 For those who aren't familiar with DCS, Operation Blueflag is a dynamic campaign that lasts for days at a time rather than our typical 3 hour MP missions. The objectives are to capture cities and airports that include multiple roles such as resupply/supply, combat air patrol, ground strike, and even csar missions. It feels like I've done all of this in IL-2 already. Neutralized an enemy airfield with ground strikes, then landed an He-111 on it to capture it, then continued to resupply with He-111s even completed an awesome sabotage mission where I had to land on a hidden trail. Seems to be so many possibilities, I think something like this dynamic campaign is what will spark people to fly IL-2 again.
coconut Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I don't see why not, but there could be time-of-day issues. I think people usually want to skip the night time. Although it sure is fun sometimes, maybe 50% of the time is a bit too much, and that's assuming any given player plays at any time of the day, which is not true. Depending on your timezone, you might end up with night flights all the time. Also, how do you handle imbalance? If there's a squadron online alone, their bombers can do severe damage.
LLv34_Untamo Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) S! Our server ("VirtualPilots - WB-AH arena style airfield conquering") does quite well what you describe. You can capture airfields (and the enemies can subsequently also re-capture them) dynamically. As coconut says, nights are a problem, and we have solved this by running the mission from dawn till dusk (about 10+h, depending on season and latitude of the map). After each reload of the mission, the situation from the previous mission is resumed, so the system is fully persistent. As time allows, we'll be adding new features, and stuff to do (more targets for level bombers will be among the first). All this is done by a Java program (written by me), which reads the log files of the DServer to determine what is happening in the game, and then giving commands to the server/mission with RCON server inputs. More on the server here:http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/21490-virtualpilots-wbah-arena-style-airfield-conquering/ Edited March 31, 2016 by LLv34_Untamo
