taffy2jeffmorgan Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Hi. Could someone advise me with regards downloading skins that come in different formats, if skins come in either WinRAR archive or compressed zip I have no problem extracting and installing the downloaded skins into the various aircraft types, but any with the DDS format they just never show up in the skin selection ? so what am i doing wrong ? Cheers
Boomerang Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Hi, You need to find where you have installed your game. It can vary for different folks, below is an example of where I've installed my game. D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\skins Once you have located the skins folder, you will need to add the *.dds plane file, (you downloaded), and paste or add that file within the appropriate planes folder, (within the skins folder).. For example: If I downloaded an F-2 plane *.dds skin, I would paste that file within the F-2's plane folder . Hope this helps, Regards
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Thanks Boomerang, I have been doing this, [ C:\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\skins ] after selecting the correct path i tell my 7-zip to place the file there [OK] but when going into BoS and selecting the skin for say the I-16 which have downloaded, that skin is not in the list ? I shall try again ! Cheers
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Access the skins folder itself and see if 7-Zip put everything in the right aircraft folder. Usually I open the folder on Explorer, and drag the file from 7-Zip onto the relevant folder to make sure it goes in the right place.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 I have solved the problem I was having with DDS format files, I was able to change the format this way- select the downloaded skin file which is in a DDS format, right click file and select 7 zip from the dropdown and select " Add to Archive" Then select archive format which in my case was Zip, the appearance of the file should now change from the plain DDS file to one with the 7Zip logo. Right click 7 Zip logo and select all, and then send it down the path, and again in my case : C:\ IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\skins and then highlight the aircraft you wish the skin to be added too This i am sure will be of help to anybody having a similar problem. Cheers. JM. 1
