Tips for correctly aiming the FAB on VVS craft?

...particularly the IL2. I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out where my bombs are going to land and even when I'm fairly close, the FAB100 doesn't have the blast radius to guarantee a kill, so you have to be really accurate.

At what angle and speed are you coming in usually, and what are your targets?

What usually works best for me is to pick a point a bit after the target, then fly down straight at that point, preferably with a steep-ish angle. Drop the bomb when the target gets out of the sights and under the hood, and only then pull up. If you pull up before the bomb leaves the plane (which is some time after you press the trigger), you'll lose precision.

I know it's not a precise recipe, but it does the job for me pretty well. I believe the important part is the flying straight. Also, last minute adjustments you do because you noticed you are off-target are completely ineffective. The bomb follows your direction of flight, not your nose. It's all easier if the nose and the direction of flight have been agreeing for at least a 3s before you drop.

30% angle is ideal(not always possible, requires 100m altitude at bomb release and the IL-2 lives by hedgehopping) and release the bomb just as the target disappears under the gunsight.  That was the recommendation of the guys who used them well in the war, and it works for me.

Until you get used to it, you could play SP missions with the yellow helper, and have an idea of where the bombs drop.

I don't know the angle...I've found if I come in fairly straight (180), the landing point is almost impossible to control. If I come in at a slight angle, it's somewhat easier to aim it, but I have no real idea when the bomb is supposed to be dropped. Like I say, sometimes I hit very prematurely, and other times, the bomb sails far past the target.

The target is...anything, lol. Artillery, trains, AA emplacements, etc.

I tried this with a bf110 and hit every target pretty spot on. I might love you right now...
