IL2 and problem with bombs

Hi everyone,

I recently bought BOS Premium Edition and after a few quick missions , I have decided to begin the single player campaign flying the IL2 plane because I like

the low altitude ground support missions. My problem is about bombing. After the first missions I noticed a big problem with the ordinance. Seems to me that trying to bomb at low altitude (usually below 500 mt. with an angle of 20-30 deg.) the bombs fail to explode. I use a fuse of 1-2 seconds in order to avoid to be caught on the blast of my same bombs, but everytime i drop my ordinance this fail to explode why?

I came from the Rise of the Flight (as you know the WWI sim of the same studio of BOS) and there when my bombs hit something (or the ground) they explode exactly at the correct time of the fuse, but here they fail. WHY?

Wich is my mistake?

My aim on the drop is good but those damned candies fail to do the fireworks? :)

Should I instead use the "on contact" option for the fuse?

Any tips?

Thanks

Yes indeed, Juri was totally right in that thread.  Set 5 second fuses(for low-altitude) and your bombs will go off every time.

It's some peculiarity of Soviet bombs.  That's just the way they were, I suppose.

The key is not to drop bombs from stupidity low gamey heights!!!

Most sim bombers me included start by dropping the bomb when 10 m over the target to get a hit.

This is just wrong and what u are experiencing is a bomb designers way of saving ur ass

You'd be surprised by the amount of bat**** stuff pilots would pull back in the day. Soviet La-7 pilots for example strafed German columns in 1945. They used to bomb at 70º at most because the aircraft became tail heavy in a dive. Mikhail Ryabzev instead did it at 90º - because he liked it, for fun.

Thank you very much for the info.

Now i will try a bombs fuse of 5 seconds or higher for low altitude bombing in the IL2. :)
