Avyx Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) Please, do me a small favor, guys, if you have 2-3 minutes Just open the HUD settings, go to ROTARY 2 / ROTARY 1 and do very very small moves The round pointer is starting to shake / tremble, on some points. Is this a software bug ?? I wanted to use Rotary 2 or Rotary 1, for zooming in slow \ zooming out slow, but it's very annoying If i use the aluminium button for zooming in slow \ zooming out slow but it seems to response very slow In the attached printscreen you cant see that, but the pointer is trembling / shaking Thank you in advance Edited March 8, 2016 by Avyx
Sokol1 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Well this can be considered "normal" in Saitek's: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2683041&postcount=2 Is due use of low cost/quality potentiometer in these secondary axis.
Avyx Posted March 8, 2016 Author Posted March 8, 2016 i still have 4 days to replace the product what else would you recommend, except Warthog Hotas? Thanks
F/JG300_Gruber Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) Try setting the axis like this : It will pobably get rid of your shaky zone. On a side note, my X55 is working fine, and so far I have no trouble with any of my axis, yet I still have problems of shakiness of the zoom axis in BoS (using the rotary 2) I don't have this problem in the old Il2 1946 so I wonder if this problem isn't partly specific of how BoS handles the zoom being put on an axis. I don't have any recommendation for another joystick, the price/feature ratio of the X55 is hard to beat IMHO. Edited March 8, 2016 by F/JG300_Gruber
Sokol1 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) Yes, in X-55 price range (~200$) are no other option. A CH combo including rudder pedal will cost more close to Warthog price. BTW - Warthog don't cost only ~400$ (Amazon), cost 400$ more a rudder pedal (120-550$). Edited March 8, 2016 by Sokol1
Avyx Posted March 8, 2016 Author Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) The shaking issue occurs even if the game is closed I like the joystick, but i cant buy it, without the throttle Maybe i could buy another throttle, but which one? Gruber, the shaking issue occurs on different points of the line The attached image is just an example I don't understand why the aluminum button doesn't work / respond properly, for zooming What about the Saitek X65F? Same cheap quality? Edited March 8, 2016 by Avyx
SFF_Esso Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I use that aluminium wheel for zoom in/out. Just program mouse wheel forward/backward to it. Sorry not in gaming computer now, so no picture how to do this. Esso
Avyx Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Could you, please, give more details ?? I have to program mouse wheel forward / backward, from the Saitek software, or from the game menu ??
Avyx Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Okay, I was able to adjust the controls / settings for IL 2 BoS, i can use the aluminium wheel for zooming, it's working perfect. But i can't make it work for DCS. When i try to add the mouse wheel, to the mouse section, nothing happent, its greyed out. I can add some keyboard buttons, X55 stick or throttle, but nothing for the mouse, under the DCS settings / controlls What am I doing wrong ?? For the keyboard i have F11 and F12 for zoom in slow / zoom out slow. Under IL 2 BoS, i deleted F11 and F12 and instead, i added the mouse wheel, but the settings menu works different under IL 2 BoS So, the question is : if the aluminium wheel is working PERFECT under BoS, shouldn't the same wheel work for DCS as well ???
Avyx Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) I wonder if all the X55 have the same rotary buttons shaking issues As i said, i can send it back, i still have 2 days. I would like to replace the X55, maybe i have more luck with another one. Edited March 10, 2016 by Avyx

I would like to replace the X55, maybe i have more luck with another one. Too late for you now, but I too have a rotary (RTY4) that shakes and now also goes haywire and stops responding. I can't find my receipt to get it replaced so I just disabled the rotary in the Saitek software. Pretty lame.
Sokol1 Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I think the issue is more with the quality (low) of pot's than the cables...
Avyx Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 Moving back and forward the throttle breaks the cables ..
BeastyBaiter Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Pots in general tend to have a bit of jitter, it's just the nature of them (my CH pedals do the same). The solution is to apply a small amount of control smoothing in game. BoS/BoM/RoF call this "sensitivity" I think. What it does is average the input over a small period of time, thus averaging those 1% jitters to a fixed value. It's no good for a main control axis as it creates control lag, but for things like throttle, prop pitch, radiator, zoom and so on, it's perfectly acceptable. About CH setups, CH uses pots exclusively. Annoying as 1% jitter on prop pitch my be (that can be eliminated in game), 1% jitter on the elevator is far worse.
Warpig Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 This is interesting. I've had my X55 for two years now, and I just discovered that the two trim rotaries actually change value when traversing through the throttle axis. I am sending mine in for an approved RMA, but this definitely sounds like a reoccurring defect that is going to affect their throttle greatly. That's unfortunate because I like this throttle, and have no other throttle that I would want to replace it with. The Warthog throttle is nice, but the deliberate switches and configurations don't seem that dynamic across a big range of flight controls of different aircraft.
BeastyBaiter Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 ^You need an externally powered USB hub (the kind with a wall plug!). The X-55 is very power hungry and with insufficient power it will do things like that, ghost button presses are also linked to lack of power.

Yea, I have an externally powered hub that I've used with this stick for a long time now. I'm not even sure how long the issue with the rotaries existed, since it was only recently that I tried to use them in WT Sim mode. I'm just thankful that I caught this before my warranty expired in May. Also just a little FYI for all, the stick aged horribly. It's now a squeaking, jerky mess. Atleast I got my Black Mamba to replace that. I do like the layout of the throttle though. I hope this new batch will be better quality. Edited April 7, 2016 by Warpig
JG1_Lipfert Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Does anyone here have the Saitek X65F ? I do, what's up?

It does require periodic lubrication to stay smooth, but that's true of all joysticks/pedals. A $3 tub of silicone grease does wonders and should last a lifetime. I actually lubricated mine straight of the box as they seemed to skimp on that at the factory for the stick (throttle actually had too much grease). As for the axis issue, yeah, that's probably a wiring issue. It shouldn't do that. Saitek does seem to have had some bad batches. Mine seems to be from a good one thankfully. Avyx Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Do I have a chance to get ( replace ) a better one, without the rotary issues ? Are all the same ? I do, what's up? Do they have the same poor quality buttons / rotary / ?
Avyx Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 (edited) I got the money back, for X55. Now the question is : what else should i buy ? I guess, X56 is the same poor quality, only with different colors, so is not worth, imo I would purchase Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, but i have no rudder pedals, and maybe it would be very difficult to use it for WW2 aircrafts, without Z axis / rudder pedals. It's really impossible to fly or take off ( WW2 planes ) without pedals / no Z axis Edited April 28, 2016 by Avyx

It's really impossible to fly or take off ( WW2 planes ) without pedals / no Z axis Wait for the Gladiator with the twist grip - you're highly unlikely to find anything better in the same price range. I pre-ordered the X55, got it early from the first production batch and though I haven't had any major issues with the equipment it has aged horribly and is already in need of replacing.
blackjack04 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Have an X55 with a left throttle issue. When I push the lever fully forward the power goes all the way up to about 75% then continues to climb to 100% very slowly, about 3% every second. Have tried reloading and updated Saitek drivers. Also added powered hub but no improvement. Can anybody suggest remedy BJ
