[110]xJammer Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I realise that there was a lengthy discussion of why Occulus would not be supported by IL2 developers, but it appears there is a driver-based solution to the problem that makes other games playable on Occulus even if they aren't supported officially. I do not know the software nor do I have it - I simply found it online and saw some youtube "reviews" of this product. http://www.vorpx.com/supported-games/ But actually this is not the first time I see such approach - about a decade ago a company released shutter-based goggles for 3D games that also used driver-based approach to render individual frames for the eyes. Obviously it had terrible fps and quality, but was workable to some extent. Could someone with better technical knowledge comment on the above product and their approach of making games VR-compatible? (Would be awesome to hear opinion from devs too!) And if its a viable approach - what would it take to get IL2 supported? P.S. They claim to support Direct X 9 games for Occulus.

To not get nauseous you need to display 90Hz stereo at a constant rate. Without optimization for newer DX i doubt thats possible. But I am neither gamedeveloper, nor direct X Guru. So i hope it will work somehow too.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) I was looking at this as all tech can normally be hacked and back graded..... I guess we wont know until someone tries. I would think even if it works there will be performance issuses that will require extremely powerful machines to be useful. For example I have a ok rig and i really like MGS 1 game cube release. So I have an emulator but it runs at half speed. So yes I think it will be possible to use oc with old SDKs but the additional power required and the heavy reliance on low latency needed for VR will make this kind of hacking useless Edited March 5, 2016 by AeroACE
