Square wheels?

I just started skinning with the MiG-3. My first experience skinning and my first experience learning to use a program besides MS Paint. I think I did ok on the MiG-3 as far as finding all of the parts and figuring out which layers do what.

I've moved on to the Yak and LaGG now. The first thing I noticed is how much more user friendly the templates are. Seriously it takes about 20 minutes for me to skin one of these where it took a day or two to skin a MiG-3. The paint chips on wood and metal parts are all in the same layer on the MiG-3 so you have to separate it out to work on the alpha channel. So many small hidden things to paint on the MiG-3.

Anyway. Despite the others being so much more user friendly, every skin I make for Yak and LaGG turns out to have square panels on the wheel discs. What did I screw up?

Well I think it has something to do with the alpha layer because I've experienced the same problem with the Bf109G.

Check the public template alpha layer, I'm quite sure you'll find a black square around the wheel disks. Since full back means full transparency the square area is not seen in the game.

But if you forget it on your custom skin alpha layer, then you'll have a square pannel instead of a circular wheel !

Yes, wheels covers are 2d sprites. Without the alpha channel applied they're square, however witth the alpha channel applied the square part of the wheels turn invisible so it appears as a circle.
