VBF-12_Stele Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I'm experiencing a slow motion performance after loading up a PWCG singleplayer mission. I counted the number of planes involved in the mission; it was around 20 planes total. Not sure how many ground objects there were. There are no stutters or choppiness while flying; it's as if I was flying in slow motion. AI gunners on bombers never fired back. Not sure if there is a performance issue on my system. Couldn't find this issue on the forum; sorry if this topic has come up before. Running i7 2.8ghz cpu 6 gig ram GTX 560 Ti
Picchio Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) I don't think there ever was a complete and thorough explanation regarding this issue, although it was present in RoF and is vastly recognized (and also experienced, it would seem) by the community. From personal experience I can only say that it's tightly bound to CPU core frequency. I also use PWCG and I can only advise you to try and lower Ground and Air density options in Simple Config first, before tweaking advanced settings. As for the slo-mo, I too would like to know more, so let's see if someone has something to add. Edited February 28, 2016 by Picchio 1
DD_Arthur Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) +1 Picchio This is how the Digital Nature engine behaves if its overloading the cpu; no stuttering as such - still very smooth but goes into slo-mo. In RoF, as the aircraft speeds are rather more sedate, the first clue for me is usually the mg rate of fire - it starts going "tap, tap, tap" . My system; GTX660ti 3gb, 12 gigs of ram and an i7 running at 3.8ghz. The 6600 helps, the ram don't do much over 6 gigs but pushing my cpu up to 3.8ghz really made the difference. I found BoS needed a cpu to be running higher than 3.6 ghz to really make a difference. The overclocking was not hard to do, plenty of Youtube tutorials around but you will need an aftermarked cooler. Edited February 28, 2016 by DD_Arthur
HippyDruid Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 What do you mean by slow motion exactly? The game is running at significantly less than normal speed (Time has slowed down) or something else?

Painkiller did that in one of my old rigs in 2012, lol. Edited February 28, 2016 by Picchio
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I experience the same as well, usually when I have Bombers in the mix. Tends to go into a slow-mo, smooth frame, normal sound, then all of the sudden it goes into a faster then normal pace. Once one or two planes are downed it returns to normal. I have an old rig that i've been jimmy riggin to keep up with the times, so i know i need an upgrade for sure..
Picchio Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) The issue on this whole matter is that we would need more solid performance analysis and benchmarks, with consistent settings... and a word from the devs too. As spartan85 suggests, bombers are pretty nasty on performance, so even if the engine currently seems to be "rated" for 20 planes in the air (which is ridiculous, IMHO, and this number doesn't include other AI entities into account), I would like to see what happens if all of them were bombers. JG1_Labroisse Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I experienced this as well. I posted on this over on PWCG and Pat told me to lower the density settings to air low and ground high which seemed to fix the problem. He apparently changed some settings in the last build to make high density much more intense. I think this is a game issue, not a CPU/GPU issue. CPU and GPU utilization stays low for me, framerates are fine and temps are good, but as Stele said, game seems to run like it is 1/2 speed. 20 planes is not a lot so the developers really should look into this problem.
Original_Uwe Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Gtx 560 is pretty ancient now. I'm running a 580 and I still have issues with too many aircraft even with an i7 at 4.5ghz

Make sure it is able to use Intel turbo boost function to raise clockspeeds when under load, although to be fair both of those CPU's are 7 generations old (if that is what your using), and BoS is quite brutal in it's CPU needs Cheers Dakpilot

When it happens, CPU utilization stays at about 40%, GPU at about 45%, frames at 60 (Vsync on), temps in low to mid 50 deg C. I just don't think this is a hardware issue. This only occurs with PWCG missions and I can run low density air and high density ground with no issues, but not vice versa.
