DocDocbruno Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I am a single player in the campaign mode flying a Bf109 G2 while connected online to Steam. I have completed 15 sorties. 1) The missions are repetitive, perhaps a total of 3 in Chapter 1 and so far only one mission in Chap 2. I have been intercepting the same 5 IL2s and 2 Yaks for the last several missions! After landing I am told "Mission Completed" and given credit for it and my victories or...or the game crashes and I must spend another hour re-flying it. But being stuck on "Groundhog Day" is what concerns me. 2) As the campaign progresses, I am told my achievements have unlocked various game options but I have no way of applying them to my plane while flying in campaign mode. Curiously, I can use the unlocked options in single and quick missions by using "Setup". 3) Finally, I am unable to clear the old campaign and start fresh. I restarted Chapter 1 and my credits for that first mission were applied to the end of my other campaign which is into Chap 2. My question is: Have I erred in setting up the campaign or is this monotony (dare I say "BoS") just the way it is in this game's single player campaigns? BoS has excellent graphics/scenery and a flight model which makes the flying challenging and fun. But he older IL2, Forgotten Battles and Rise of Flight had progressive campaigns for single players which gave the player a sense that the war would someday end (Although the AI in the latter makes it almost impossible to shoot down an enemy.) Please advise, and thanks. Doc B.
DocDocbruno Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 I solved problems 1 and 2 but would still like to know if it is possible to generate a second campaign while the first is in progress and, if so, then how?

DocDocbruno Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 Muchas gracias, that's exactly what I wanted to know!
KenK039 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 how did you fix being stuck. I've flown "back into the fray" about 5 times now, can't get past it. completed mission and landed, applies points and unlockables, but on the map for next campaign mission, its still "back into the fray"
DocDocbruno Posted April 23, 2016 Author Posted April 23, 2016 No one higher up seems to have a definite answer to this but I think I now do. I have flown approximately 80 missions in a Bf109 G2 with 50 or so missions successfully completed. Based on this, I believe the single player "campaign" mode (unlike the old IL2 and Forgotten Battles with a progression of missions) is restricted to one canned mission per airfield of departure. I am in the 3rd phase of the battle and the only way to vary a mission is to change airfields. As the Soviet encirclement tightens, that number of fields diminishes and options decrease. I forget the names but one of the departure fields always leads me to the N x NW at 5000-6000 m where I intercept Pe2s while the other takes me SE x S at low altitude to intercept IL2s. Occasionally the number of enemy aircraft varies and sometimes they lack fighter support. I must entertain myself by trying to shoot down one aggressor at the "action point" and then following them home and attacking while they fly (fake and vulnerable) landing patterns. In short, the game is made for multiplay where options can be unlimited. I am restricted to limited broadband time (10 GB/month) and a multiplayer campaign would cost too much. Incidentally, I find the same restrictions in the "career" mode of Rise of Flight. It's frustrating but that's how the games were designed and we single player guys are scwooed. I hope this helps. My current problem is with game crashing. I can fly 5-10 missions in a row, successfully intercept and destroy enemy ac and then have the game abruptly end upon landing or when flying home. Everything from that mission is lost and the game must be re-started/re-opened. Curiously, a point is reached where I can complete missions. I don't understand it and am usually exhausted by that time and just turn off the idiot box. One more comment: The 109 flies like a barf bucket but I suppose that is how the game designers achieve difficulty. Yes, I know I know, I still "fly" in spite of my complaints because it is an entertaining diversion.

And Bf-109 is the best fighter in the game. Very capable plane. Nothing to do with mission designer choices.
seafireliv Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I really hope they put more emphasis to the SP campaign to make it have a more realistic set of missions rather than the frankly cheap canned thing we have now. After a while of flying it, you don`t feel like you`re really in a war campaign at all, just set basic missions over and over again. The original IL2 campaign which wasn`t great, at least made you feel like someone on high was giving you missions that actually had some effect on the campaign.
DocDocbruno Posted April 27, 2016 Author Posted April 27, 2016 We SPs are the poor stepchildren. I do attack ground targets while returning to base. Despite my criticisms, having the game is better than not having it.
