IckyATLAS Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Would it be possible to have the LOD according to distance mainly for ground detail made as a parameter, so that one could fix it according to its machine. The problem is mainly at medium altitude. At ground level or very low altitude or high altitude the present settings are okay. But a medium altitude were one can still very well see a lot of details, the moving border between the crisp ground detail part of the screen and the fuzzy graphic display at a distance, is really not very immersive. I think my machine could handle a wider surface at a higher detail so that it is really at a big distance that things would fuzzier. In any case I would be glad to have the ability to set this. The next much more powerful graphic boards coming end of this year (ex. Nvidia Pascal GPUs) would make this even more necessary. Maybe there is a way to do this (modifying an .init file) already but I did not find it.
Dakpilot Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 There was an edit somewhere, it was discussed on the forums, however when I used it at high settings it could easily overwhelm my GTX970 and use up to 6GB Vram went back to the X4 texture quality in game setting hopefully some improvements will come soon to address this and some performance issues Cheers Dakpilot 1
Remontti Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 (edited) You can adjust your LOD if you create a file named terrain.cfg in your data\graphics folder. Try searching the forums for terrain.cfg and terrain.ini (the file was renamed after a patch). I use setting where the near texture quality is lowered a bit and texture quality in distance is increased. It looks good to me. Here's what I have in my terrain.cfg: PixelSize=5 //meters LodCount=5 [setup] texlod=4096,8 texlod=2048,8 texlod=2048,8 texlod=2048,8 texlod=1024,16[end] [setup] texlod=4096,8 texlod=4096,8 texlod=2048,8 texlod=2048,8 texlod=2048,16[end] [setup] texlod=4096,8 texlod=4096,8 texlod=4096,8 texlod=2048,8 texlod=2048,16[end] [setup] texlod=3072,8 texlod=3072,8 texlod=3072,8 texlod=3072,8 texlod=4096,8[end] I belive the last five values are for 4X terrain setting so if you use that just adjust the last five values. The first row of the five values means the texture quality closest to you and the last row is the terraing quality in the distance. edit: Here is the link for the older post about the subject http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/12501-you-also-think-bos-beautiful-how-about-making-it-absolutly-g/page-11?hl=gorgeous&do=findComment&comment=280451 Edited February 27, 2016 by Remontti
