Lusekofte Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Do not get me wrong, I love this sim for what it is. But I feel there is a pool of pilots that absolutely are capable to manage their engine and plane without the aid of Icons and onscreen compass. I know you can switch off those things, but I feel the consequences for not attending the engine is kind of old IL 2. I acknowledge the fact that DM is not as complex as other simulators, but yet you see all the start and stop procedures going on. There should be a possibility to have a pro expert setting that allows you to do those. And a possibility to have them destroyed. Another thing I find weird is the fact that there are no speed limit in lowering and rising gear, while in others the speed needs to be below 200 km/h I feel I miss those little details of immersion. This is not to be read as a demand, it is just a list of a bigger list in a feeling that this game could have been so much more
216th_Xenos Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 The option should definitely be there for the server admin. On another note, look at what happened to the Syndicate server when WOL arrived. Syndicate had no GPS,and correct me if I am wrong, but is that not what drove a lot of players to the more 'friendly' wol server? I feel like lack of icons in a server will have the same effect. Either way, having the option to use a feature for the server admin is always an ideal solution.
Asgar Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 there is no GPS on FL and the best player base is there. not always full, but when it is, there is no server where you can have more fun

StG2_Manfred Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 We were flying there yesterday on the assault on stalingrad map and for some reason the GPS was on. Monday is the squadron evening of StG2 and our bomber pilots asked for the icon. The rest of the week it is turned off.
Asgar Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) ok...so no FL on Mondays. good to knowbtw. maybe your bomber pilots should practice navigating Edited February 24, 2016 by I./JG3_Asgar 2

So that's good. P.S. You might be surprised about the BOS damage model. Having the structure of your wing damaged by enemy fire, only having it break under the strain of turning 30 minutes later, or having one of your gear legs fall out of the wing when you attempt to lower them for landing(again because of a shell penetrating the wing and damaging the gear) is pretty impressive. P.P.S. There is also no GPS on DED Expert Beta and seems to do just fine. Edited February 24, 2016 by Silas
Asgar Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 P.P.S. It makes ground attack completely futile for Germans and effectively makes the DED server a pure dog fight server.

I've flown Axis and Soviet a lot there, and have only determined that all AAA(Axis or Soviet) will kill you 40% of the time, all the time. Given that most of the DED guys fly Axis and that they've introduced restrictions on silly-weight bombs on fighters, I think you're just seeing things. Kind of like when someone said that obviously the WOL guys placed magical static clouds over the German depots to spite the FW guys. Edited February 24, 2016 by Silas 1
Asgar Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 silly-weight bombs on fighters? ...like the 250 kg bomb on the 109 E-7... a plane that was almost exclusively used as a fighter bomber on the eastern front? ...yeah, makes sense
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I fly on DED whenever their extremely sensitive ping kicker allows, it's a fun server and by all means the German flak will grill you as much as the Soviet. About the bombs, it's a tough call. Namely, these restrictions usually come when the fighters are doing all the strategic A2G work and nobody is flying bombers. Being a F-B pilot myself majorly, I can understand that, and to be frank 50kg bombs pack just the same punch at columns, airfields and so on. It's definitely forced me to be more careful with aiming, but otherwise the experience is the same to me at least.

I dont understand this, I opened their mission files, an AAA skill are set equals for both sides, managed by same parameters in ME... Unless some weapon or crew are codded different in game engine...
Feathered_IV Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 DED server is pretty good and I especiallly like the way you must first locate the targets before they show on the map. It's much more rewarding than WoL' s Full-real lite GPS.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Indeed, Feathered. Today my armed recce (a joy particularly unique to this server since you need to find the stuff before shooting at it) took me near the main LW airfield as I looked for convoys and the like. Ended up attacking a Stuka and shooting it down but the two 109s that were taking off at the time caught up and sealed my fate. Never got to find that convoy
Y-29.Silky Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 On another note, look at what happened to the Syndicate server when WOL arrived. Syndicate had no GPS,and correct me if I am wrong, but is that not what drove a lot of players to the more 'friendly' wol server? Stats, RU location, and a very outdated, never updated mission on Syndicate. Quite a few people get offended when I suggest it, but people should try to give navigation another chance, it adds a lot of fun to the flight with less repetitive gameplay. People like to make it seem way more challenging than it really is (Germans fly straight East, Russian's fly straight West). DED server is pretty good and I especiallly like the way you must first locate the targets before they show on the map. It's much more rewarding than WoL' s Full-real lite GPS. I loved that aspect until my last experience in DED. The whole German team went to our airfields and vulched the server empty.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 There's always a vulcher or two on DED in the forward airfields but it's beautiful to watch them get wiped out of the sky quickly. Haven't had anything similar to your experience though, and I was hit only once by a strafing 109 who made one pass and headed home. I suppose you and co. got unlucky. Absolutely agree on the navigation though, it's such a straightforward and simple thing. The Stalingrad region is factually cut by the Volga and the Don, and all the action usually happens between these two, more often than not with them as a front line. It's ridiculously straightforward to find whichever river is relevant to your mission, travel up or down it until you reach either Stalingrad or Kalach since these are major cities impossible to miss, then take a straight heading to wherever the hell you want. Once the flak starts shooting at you, there's your target, go and hit it. Then on the way back fly 090 or 270 depending on your location and land at whatever airstrip has other aircraft and such on it. Magic!

SYN_Haashashin Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 and a very outdated, never updated mission on Syndicate. I know this is offtopic but a word need to be said since Syndicate name has been brought up by some and this quote above made me respond finally. I had 5 up to date missions for our server before I had to move towns and had to stop updating them. Last time I updated the missions (18 July) for the server was around the same week WoL topic was posted (12 July) Saying that this could be the reason for people to fly WoL and leave SYN server is at least misdirecting. I think that the most important thing that made people not flying SYN and going to WoL, along other servers such as DED, is the fact that the hosted dserver was taken down so no Syndicate server to fly in (personal note here: the fact that no one asked what happened for a long time felt to me like it was not appreciated so...) I have had requests to bring it back up but the interest inside my squad and my willing to spend a crazy amount of hours building missions has decrease hugely. @Dakpilot: We do not have a hosted dserver anymore but the server we are using for our squad things and for RoF is near Amsterdam indeed.
