Napping-Man Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I've been practicing in the Il-2, but I just can't seem to kill the damn things. I start in a shallow dive, and fire at about 500 meters, preferably from behind where the armor is weak. It's damned hard keeping them in the cross-hairs. Raising the rudder sensitivity helped some, but I still suck it seems. Should I drop flaps? Steeper dive? Shallower dive? I managed to kill ONE after expending all my ammo on it. Any tips are tactics I should try?
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Try to come in at a 45 degree angle or so, to hit the tanks at the top of their armour - the top is way more vulnerable to air attack than the flat back. Also, which cannons are you loaded with? The ShVAK isn't a particularly great tank-busting weapon, you're better off with the 23mm VYa-23 or the VYa-37 (gun pods), using full-AP loads. Truth be told tank busting is hard business and I can't seem to do it that well either, but this should help.
Napping-Man Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 I've been using the pods (they look cool, too ). I'll try a steeper attack from now on. Thanks!
Dakpilot Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) A lot of the principles from this thread are relevant http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/20543-help-stuka-bk-37-tank-attacking/page-1?hl=%20tank%20%20busting Cheers Dakpilot Edited February 23, 2016 by Dakpilot
