[DBS]airdoc Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Hi all I 've created a mission with a formation of Heinkels flying through waypoints in a route that takes them over an enemy airfield. The formation is actually made of single entities - each bomber flies on its own from waypoint to waypoint, there is no link between them . This works fine. I 'd like to make the bombers drop the bombs on the target airfield while flying straight and level to their end waypoint. I tried assigning the attack area command for ground and ground targets but the Heinkels don't react to it. Waypoints are on medium priority and this is a single mission. Is there a way to do it? Also, is it possible for the Heinkels to stay in formation with their AI gunners firing at enemy airplanes? thanks
Jade_Monkey Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 If you can attach the mission it might be easier to help you. Do you have the attack area at the same altitude as the waypoints? Also give them enough space between the previous waypoint and the attack area to line up the shot. 1
[DBS]airdoc Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) thanks for replying Jade, here's the link to the mission file. I 've linked only the first two heinkels to an attack area command. Tried various combinations of waypoints (closer and further away, altitudes, attack ground/ground targets etc), but still the heinkels don't level bomb. any help is appreciated cheers EDIT : it turns out that I hadn't linked the waypoint to the attack area command . Now it works, but trying to figure out how not to make them deviate from their course Edited October 21, 2017 by [DBS]airdoc
JimTM Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) ...but trying to figure out how not to make them deviate from their course Yes, whether I use the attack command, attack area command, place the icon at the waypoint height or on the ground, move the last waypoint farther/closer to the target, etc., the AI always do a wide circle before making their bomb run. I guess this is baked in to the AI routines. I see similar behavior with the land command--the AI always do a wide circuit of the airfield before they land. Also, the AI do not keep very good formation. In one test, some Pe-2s flew to the target in a loose V formation. By the time they circled for the attack, the formation was virtually gone and the #3 plane did not drop his bombs at all. Here's my test mission (using attack area): JimTMTestAttackCommand6d.zip Cheers! Edited February 25, 2016 by JimTM
