VBF-12_Stele Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I got to thinking about 3D printers. I work in a library and one of our departments will be purchasing one in the near future. I think it would be great to print a joystick of WW2 joysticks, however I'm not sure where one could find 3d models of joysticks or how to even go about making a 3D model. Has this subject come up before on other sites?
Sokol1 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 (edited) I see only Spitfire spade modeled for 3D printer that can use as joystick (2 models) - but think that authors don't share the files. Unless using a high resolution printer the result is not good.... Maybe this guy share the files for P-51 grip: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4207005/Spogooter's_Sim_Stuff#Post4207005 Anyway only KG-12/13 B grip (4 buttons) is really suitable for for use as joystick - most other models have 2 fire buttons. Are good era drawings of KG-13 grip, suitable to model a 3D for print - if one have skill with 3D programs. Edited February 20, 2016 by Sokol1 2
Sokol1 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 The above Spitfire spade - in Sketchup: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=u0de0a507-ee64-4a19-83b5-7fb2058ec4ab 2
PeterZvan Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Good quality 3d prints are relativly expensive. I have a fwe suppliers around my location and am using them sometimes because of my job requirements. One thing with 3d print is that its not very strong and can break. Also to make the prints you need to provide the 3d model. This is proper CAD 3d model - not the same as we have in our sims. So you first need to create it - again need the program / skills to do it. In the end its a question what is the purpose - if one wants to make a one off or a few sticks, or if one wants to make a batch of sticks. As soon as its a bigger batch of about 1000+ sticks its much cheaper to make a tooling for this and create the sticks using plastic injection. As a hobby project, than 3d printing is usefull, but that hobby stick is going to be expensive.
GVL224 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 (edited) I'm doing a 3D printer, not mechanics, but all sorts of handles and twists Edited December 15, 2017 by GVL224 3
