Adler_ Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Hey guys, currently I own Thrustmaster tm 160000 and have had it for the past 4 or 5 years. And its still working fine , but I wanted to upgrade to a better, Hotas stick. My budged is around 100-130$ and the joystick that caught my eye ways Saitek x52 Hotas.. My friend owns one and the think I noticed right away is that the spring is just awful. I also did so research and found out that this can be changed with some modifications, which fixes the problem. But I am still unsure if this would be the best choice.. I was really hyped about the VKB Gladiator but its still not out and its price tag is unknown. So I wanted to ask if you guys have any experience with Saitek x52 HOTAS and do you recommend it ? Also if there are any other sticks that you would like to recommend that are not super overpriced please post a reply. Thank you all!
Warpig Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 The X52 isn't a bad stick for the price range, but it does require a mod to make it linear. Also, your right about the spring, it is very loose. Ergonomically, the stick is very comfortable. That is one very positive thing about it.
Sokol1 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 (edited) In this price range the option is only X-52. This topic highlight well the PRO and CON of X-52 models: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=159517 Edited February 20, 2016 by Sokol1

Sokol1 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 (edited) I think Gladiator Lite (or basic) will have affordable price, and as his electronics is better than any Saitek, a case to consider. A supposed sketch of their first throttle indicates a nice model, optimized for WW II planes, with levers for PP, Mixture/Radiator - not other DéJá Vu F-something (or Tie Fighter) based throttle (and their problematic TDC/Slew control). But as is "norm" with VKB products, is need wait a bit more, and wait... Edited February 21, 2016 by Sokol1
eaglesqn Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 how does the X52 feels compare to the extreme 3d? is it more smoother? or harder like the genius metalstrike 3d?

Ergonomically, the stick is very comfortable. That is one very positive thing about it. Had the 52 for four years. I tried this mod but didn't like it. Removed the magnets and went back normal. The spring mod was great though. Loved it. The best thing about the 52 is the thottle. Axis and sliders. Perfect thottle layout. Wish i could have the 52 thottle layout built to warthog standards.

EisenWaffel Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Maybe you want to keep the TM 160000000000 and get a CH Throttle to go with it.
Adler_ Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 For 125$ , what CH throttle costs I can get thrustmaster hotas x . Which I might actually. BUT thank you for the advice greedypoor!
Sokol1 Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 But no advantage in HOTAS X, to use together with T.16000M the throttle need be hook in (HOTAS) X joystick, and this unit has few buttons. The Achilles Hell of HOTAS X is use low cost potentiometer. CH PRO throttle (standalone device) give you 20 buttons (3 press buttons + 4 HATS + 1 button in mini-stick) - the mini-stick axis can be used as more 4 buttons (or as thumb rudder). A way to improve T.16000M usability is rewire some of base buttons in new (momentary) switches on grip. http://forum.il2sturmovik.ru/uploads/monthly_08_2015/post-683-0-56808800-1439970591.jpg Unfortunately the more easy points to solder wires is in left side base buttons - just the ones that have practical use, for right hand people. In the right side buttons is doable, but less easy, the buttons are in controller PCB.
Brano Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I have my combo of VKB Cobra and Saitek Throttle quadrant for 95 euros. It's not top high-end hardware, but I like it a lot and think it's a good choice for common virtual pilot for the reasonable price.STQ has 3 levers I use for mixture, rpm governor and throttle + 3 2-way buttons I use for radiators and flaps. Cobra joy has many buttons,2 hats and one wheel to map lots of stuff like I want. And it looks like a "real stuff" (Su-27 inspiration). And you can crack skulls with its solid base
EisenWaffel Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Oh $125 I was thinking it was more around $90 at the most. Well they are really tough I hear, I use to have a Flight Stick Pro (Mac ADB port version) long long time ago.
moorwenBeaufighter51 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I had some issues with the X52 using it with DCS so I bought the X55 Rhino and it worked great with DCS and IL-2. You guys know of anyone looking for a Joystick cheap look me up.

Well they are really tough I hear, I use to have a Flight Stick Pro (Mac ADB port version) long long time ago. I don't know if there is cheaper solution that doesn't compromise quality significantly. STQ is a solid product which is on market for years. I got it for 45eur here in Slovakia. VKB Cobra was 50eur. For such price you will hardly find better joystick which utilizes magnetic sensors, has solid metallic base which holds the stick on table like glued and has a look of professional hardware
Adler_ Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 Well the stick that I like the most is thrustmaster hotas x due I own t160000m and the quality and durability is just amazing. But Ill wait a bit since I am in no hurry to spend my cash , and see what VKB gladiator will look like
F/JG300_Gruber Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Different experience with the Hotas X here, as it is using cheap pots, mine started to spike on the X axis after only 2 month of use. I bought myself a X55 and I'm very happy with it. Throttles feels great, a ton of buttons to map pretty much everything you need in BoS, and it is muuuch more precise than the Hotas X with absolutely no deadzone.
Sokol1 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Different experience with the Hotas X here, as it is using cheap pots, mine started to spike on the X axis after only 2 month of use. Today one should only buy controller (stick, pedal..) with pot's in main axis for lack of option, or information.
