I wasnt even able to figure how to fly anything else than the laGG...

You can't right now. Only LaGG available.

Posted

seriously ? no trims ?

Real pilots don't need trim. We make the plane trim itself by showing it a picture of Chuck Norris before we take off.

Quote of the night. Thanks mate. :salute:

Side slipping with full rudder doesn't slow gauge speed either.

Was wrong at first try. It IS working...

But some gauges aren't working at all. Certainly because alpha.

Posted

Man this sucks, I have to wait 9 more hours until I get home to play this.

I guess this means I'm releasing my emblems tonight!

You will be releasing them every which way. :P

This is unbelievably good, even for an alpha build, and I am excited to see such a high level of quality from you guys. Keep it up, and I will throw money at you like you were wearing a thong.

Try what Furious Meow told me! ---> with SSAO = 0 in startup.cfg all is cristal clear again!

I'll try!

I'll try!

There are 2 lines about SSAO...set them both to =0  :salute:

---> about tail wheel locking, it seems it's not working here. Even when pressing my mapped button (or key) i can loop the plane.

And in external view, the tail wheel is turning.

Had a hard time playing due to frame rate issues.   only getting 12-13 and serious stutters on ground.   Pressing P (pause) and P again clears it up for a short time.   Tried both window and full screen at resolution 3072x768.   When running on single screen in 1152*860 had a constant 50 frames, all settings to high.  Specs in sig

Being alpha I can't say too much cause I really had a hard time flying due to above issue. I'm grounded for the rest of the night, but plan to be back in the air tomorrow.

- Airplanes looked good

- Hard to get a feel for the flight modeling with above issue but seemed on track

- Special effects such a snow prop blow look great and blowback varied based on engine speed

- Landing light looks spectacular

- Sky and lighting look good

- Ground (snow) not so much, better at higher altitudes

- Weird looking alias issue on the patches of snow with lines in them, I get that shimmer effect regardless of AA level.

- Buildings/Neighborhoods kind of plain, expected more detail but I know it's alpha

- Sound is brilliant

- Had a very difficult time getting the plane to turn left at any speed despite rudder controls, turned right without issue but did not want to go left, even from stop.  I think some of this was caused by the very low FPS issue, not sure if others are reporting the same.

- For me hard to talk about how I feel about the game, given it's alpha and only 32% I'd have to say it's coming along great for this stage.  Overall planes and flight models on track, sounds are excellent as mentioned, only complaint I really have is the low FPS and somewhat plainness of the scenery which I fully expect will get attention as development goes on.   Good Job guys!

Aceshigh, try updating your drivers or something. I get solid 50-60fps on 3 screen setup at 5760x1080 with max graphics and your same setup (except an i5 2600k)...we even have the same chair.

Nvidia's latest driver mess up my resolutions.   For some reason they have excluded my desired resolution from their surround options.   Additionally it causes my monitors to act funny.   Rage going on over in Nvidia driver forums by several but so far last couple months no response.   Tomorrow though I will try to put the latest driver back on and see how it performs, thanks for the heads up.   I love the Chair, got a buttkicker underneath and with the all metal frame it really rocks literally.

hehe my first attempt at a cockpit did not turn out so well but happy with the chair.   Vast improvement and holding up well over the last year.   I think at the time of the PVC dream I was trying to model a P51 or something, was going to cover it in plastic panels from the home store.

It is early in Belgium I have just time to try the first mission and have not mutch control over the plane but it is a fantastic game, this evening when I am back from work I shall try to make more of it and explore the other missions. continue the good work!

Hmmm, the prop pitch thingie is kind of useful to get airborne. Injured the pilot during one of my escapades and he made a radio call.

Thank you devs! Now for some Vodka and then another flight.

Feeling of flight is definitely there, from the short hour I've spent flying the LaGG-3 (after spending 2 trying to map my controls... it's a painful process). Now, about the LaGG. I feel like I'm flying an underpowered, slow-ass flying piece of junk, but that aircraft flies nonetheless. You need to slightly pull the nose down when taking off or you'll just flat-spin into the ground: engine torque is dangerous at times. Make sure to have your mixture set to rich and prop pitch set to fine when taking off or you'll end up a smoldering ball of fire. The aircraft has a surprisingly fast roll rate, but stall characteristics of the LaGG are unpredictable and you don't have much of a warning sign before you find yourself spinning and spiraling down to the ground. I find the LaGG controls sluggish and twitchy at times (as the aircraft is seriously underpowered) but the difficulties I currently have seem to be realistic historical issues the aircraft had. It's funny to realize how easy the Spitfire and Hurricane were to fly in comparison to the Russian machines in the early 1940s: I guess it's a testament to Reginald Mitchell and Sydney Camm's great designs.

I've never flown a LaGG-3 in real life, so I don't really have any clue about the fidelity of the flight model. My impression is that it feels right, but I could certainly be wrong about that as I don't have empirical data to compare. One thing is certain: the LaGG is unforgiving and will make you crash if you're not careful.

Still having trouble looking at the right gauges as I'm not familiar with the cockpit yet, but my first impressions are good overall. I've never been much of a LaGG fan (I just find it plain ugly, but not as much as the Yak!)... I've always preferred British and American design. But I guess I'll learn to appreciate German and Russian design eventually, I just gotta give it some time first.

Overall, Battle of Stalingrad is looking good so far. I can't wait for the lend-lease aircraft (P-40-P-40-P-40-P-40) for the Russian side though.

Spent about three hours flying.  This is a winner.  All graphics cranked to max,  FPS very good and smooth.  Everything from skins to ground textures to canopy to panel are gorgeous.  Love the lighting, both day and night,  The plane was a joy to fly.  You have a true winner on your hands.  Keep up the good work, looking forward to the next episode.

Can't wait to join this up to Oculus Rift!!

LaGG is like wrestling a sweaty pig, can't turn without falling out of the sky, or perhaps i'm doing something wrong :P

Bad Performance here. 2600K 4.5 Ghz and 680 GTX SLI 4 GB and with 1920x1080 high setting about 17FPS. Triple Screen 5760x1080 unplayable. RoF getting on triple with high setting constantly 60-70 FPS. Looks to me very unfinished in terms of performace. Medium setting not change anything.

Bad Start for me.

Problem solved when shut down SLI. Works fine whit one 680GTX. Hope there fix soon SLI issue because multimonitoring. First Flight impression: Great!

It looks great and getting high fps with my gtx660, the nighttime moon reflection on the snow is especially beautiful.

The pilot bailing out has been animated very good as well, and the overall look of the planes and terrain is way better

than anything ive seen[and remember this is ALPHA version!].

hopefully see you soon in the skies of Stalingrad! :friends:

Game runs very smoothly and beautifully on my old rig with "balanced" graphic options. Will have to check that config file so to set SSAO to 0 as I'm experiencing that weird "dirt filter" while looking inside the pit.

Just made a couple of take-offs and landings after setting up my controls, very flight sensation, first landing was good, second one ended up with a bent wing :)

So far very good impression, can't wait for tonight to be able to test it a bit more, looks like I totally missed the realism options, as I couldn't activate the mixture and radiators.

I think that "dirt filter" you see on the screen is for the goggles effect? :) I kind of like it, don't think any other sim ever did this.

This seems to be popping up in the bug forums (Jason posted about it being a database issue), but alas, this is my first impression (heh). Luckily I'm quite patient, so I eagerly await my chance to fool around with it. :P

From the looks of this thread, it'll be worth the wait!

Hello...

Big thank you to the developers...The game is running super smoothely already and track-ir is working very nice...

From my limited testing so far and from watching the videos on youtube i have two MINOR concerns though...

1. TO MUCH white....The majority of the ground will obviously need to be white because of the snow but i would like to se  a little more variaty in color, camoflage and dirtyness on the veichles...Everything looks exactelly the same tanks, trucks cars, APCs...A little grey and alot of white for the germans and a litle green and alot of white for russians...A little more variaty amongst the veichles would be a good thing i think...More or less dirty, more or less winterpainted, camoflaged, no camoflaged, air identification flags on some veichles maybe...so on...Also...and i only have limited flying time as of yet so i might be wrong...Spotting the groundtargets without

labels turned on is VERY difficult...especially when they are located in a village or on a road...This might get easier with practice but right now i find it ' maybe to hard'...

2. The sunglare effect...Compared to for example DCS from eagle dynamics the sunglare effect in the game seems...less effectfull and not as sharp...MAYBE ITS BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER (i don't know)...

Once again...Theese are only minor things...Overall I'm very pleased with what i see so far...

Thanks again !

So far she exceeds my expectations. Flying ROF helped that. Also it looks/feels better than ROF (this may be my own excitement twisting that).

I get this crazy deja vu feeling that its 2001 all over again! Thanks much Jason and the crew.

it's what I wished ROF was, a WWII simulator, so far very positive about this, running well looking great, the bugs being reported at the moment are recurring and common so are likely to be well in hand, really very pleased with my first impressions, flight feels OK, only OK for the moment because without trim (known bug) it's not very comfortable, I personally really do miss click pits but it's a purely personal preference.

Very Well done 777!

  Hey Fellas,

I am just checking in to say this is great.  I will not reiterate what all here are saying about the great effort put forward by the devs.  Pat yourselves on the back... This is a great effort.

I will continue to stand by for updates.  Just flew around the map this morning and I really liked it.  The Lagg is beautiful.  I think the "grainy" look is representative of the old worn out conditions.  The gauges of yesteryear are properly represented in their dim stage(that is the way it was).

Some gauges in the Lagg don't work(Climb/Dive meter) and I never saw the temp rise or fall, but hey you did say Early Beta so I will be grateful for what we have.

I liked the icy feeling of complete isolation.  It was like a scary polar expedition movie.  Living in Sweden I think I know what winter feels like and 1C, I thinks you nailed it!

Cant wait to see further developments.  For now, CONGRATULATIONS on release.

Finally a game where you can properly practice ground handling of tail draggers! Feels a lot like my time in a super cub, plus a lot more weight/inertia.

FSX sucks big time in that respect.

Posted

Overall, i think there are surprisingly few bugs, considering it's still called an alpha.

Of course there are some features not working yet and obviously alot of content is missing, but overall, it runs better for me than expected.

The low fps problem (12-13fps) seems mostly to affect those of us trying to run triple screen setups with multiple cards.

Hopefully the problem will go away when they get the 'Multi-GPU Support' option enabled (it already works very well in ROF).

But yes I agree a bit of a disappointment at this stage for those of us with that type of setup, we can't really enjoy the rest of the early release because of the frame rate. Let's just hope 'Multi-GPU Support' isn't too far down the list of priorities and we'll see it implemented sooner rather than later.

Does windowed mode work any better (or did you try that already)?

Posted

First impressions - it is amazingly looking.

Even on high with my slightly dated setup the game runs on 60 fps without dropping.

Coming from FRB War Thunder and thinking i'll be fine,i understood i have to re-learn how to fly. :D

The sound is glorious, everything is very gorgeous, the flames and smoke on startup are amazing.

Can't wait for more planes!

i am getting bad shadows/bump mapping when on the ground.. The bump mapping kinda floats above the ground when I'm on the apron.

I'm using a gfx 570

Anyone one else with this issue.

What nvidia drivers are you using ?

Posted (edited)

Do you use the nVidia settings for shadows?

Ha! So that's how fly by wire control law was perfected!

Yep. And I tried both to be on the safe side. Same problem.

Do you guys use most recent drivers ? I use older drivers because they run dcs and bms better for me.

But I will update them.

Installed last night. Didn't have my stick or pedals setup so I just sat on the runway and fooled around with some stuff.

FPS seemed pretty smooth to me on maxed out graphics, not solid 60fps but I wasn't sure. Is there a fps counter anywhere?

AA even on 8x seemed a little jaggy, in my ATI settings I have everything application controlled. I also had that strange "dirt filter" look. I'll update my drivers and mess with different settings and see if it helps. I'd love to run this with 3 screens but right now I'm only using 1 for the time.
