Just as a note, the last 2 keys I ordered from amazon have failed to authenticate on 777's side. I don't know exactly what's going on (maybe they are ahead of the auth'd set on 777's side because of the sale or something) but if you are feeling especially paranoid you can also get ROF ICE from gamersgate, with a different bonus plane (Pfalz D.XII rather than Nieuport N.17), for $12 or so. Or at least you could the last time I could get their site to load. Assuming you can get the page to load at all (they seem to be getting hammered for xmas) -

edit - oops nope, looks like it was because they were being used as gift codes (which I think I actually messed up and told them to do) rather than activation codes to activate the client.

Yeah I mentioned that in the OP but I'm not sure if having the same price and as an advertised reseller on the amazon ICE page itself means they're actually sharing the same pool of keys (eg whether amazon are just doing this promotion with fspilotshop anyhow).

If I purchased ICE from there then they would just email me a key that I could enter on my account page at 777 site, right?

I don't know which shop you mean - I've ordered from all 3 in the past - but amazon and I believe fspilotshop also just give you a webpage linked to your store account that displays the key. You use that key as an activation code on the demo.

 

edit - just checked, I've ordered ICE from gamersgate in the past also. It's also a webpage displaying the key there under 'my library'. So none of them will send you an email as far as I know.

I'm fairly sure the ICE code you get from Amazon (or other online store) can either be entered in game or on your profile licence page http://riseofflight.com/en/profile/license

Yeah I'm not the one entering them so I can only take people's word for it, but it doesn't seem to be any issue like that these people had the retail disk registered to their email first or anything. I just did the only thing I really could and gave them 777's email.

I've gotten 4 gifts up to this point, and said I wasn't gonna grab anymore for myself. 

But after seeing that the majority of the codes taken don't even get a thank you post, I wonder to what kind of players they actually go to.

 

Because from the top of my head I can think of a couple ways to abuse this generosity.

One doesn't have to be registered to see the codes, right? There's no post count required to ensure that the person receiving the gift is actually interested in this games.

And to let your mind at ease a bit, I don't think I would have ever gotten into WWI aviation or ROF. But now I'm having a blast with this game, and can't wait to see what 777 has in store for us in the WWII era.

I'm also googling everyone of this planes as I get them, and reading up on WWI aviation in general. So your effort does leave an impact...

Whoops, just as a note, if you got an ICE code, your ICE code is what you use to activate the F2P client (on the main game screen, "register demo or activate retail copy"), not as a "gift" code on your profile. The reason it wasn't working for the last two was because I told the last two people the wrong thing. How embarrassing

Yours right hegykc there are many ways this could be abused if you really put your mind to it, but personally I think the most likely reason for the lack of "Thank you" posts is probably down to guys who have already grabbed a couple of aircraft feeling guilty their grabbing another (note: I've never said you couldn't do this).

 

I post the codes at fairly random times, If you want to spend the entire day camped out here hitting refresh, good luck to you. There may also be an element of; I did ask guys on ROF forum equivalent of this post not to grab all the codes here, maybe some are and don't want to be seen to be doing it.

 

But my biggest concern here is not where the codes are going, but rather, you'll discourage others from gifting by not saying a simple "Thank you" and that???

Again I can only take other people's word for what happened with it but one guy said it suddenly worked for him when he used it as an activation code after repeatedly telling him it was invalid as a gift. I have no idea what's going on, but I'm just relaying what worked for one dude. Could be that it just started working from some change on 777's side to allow a new set, I don't know.
