Features of the Digital Nature engine

DX10/11 does not add any new magical features automatically. None at all. Tessellation is not used by CloD. They can make RoF look more detailed with DX9.

The game could benefit from the improved pipeline in DX10/11, but it's not like if they "switch" suddenly everything will look beautiful.

Also, could you take a screenshot of CLOD running in DX9 mode and then in DX10 for reference and comparison?

Right now I would say War Thunder is the nicest looking WWII Combat Flight Sim out there. As far as the game goes IL-2 1946 is much better as far the flight models map selection and aeroplane set. However it's still just in beta. It's biggest asset is it's look. Also it runs like silk. Unbelievably high frame rates for this graphic quality 80s and 90s for me. I think winter looks out of this world.

QFT... a lot of theatres have been done to death but North Africa has been soundly missed. I doubt the setting will scare people off... it should be a draw actually. The air combat there was intense, features some of the classics, and the scenery would be totally unique (and those familiar with the geography would note that it's not all just sand and dusty ruins).

Yes I've always loved the North Africa theater. One, compaired to the other theaters the civilian population suffered very little. Two, I've always felt that in this time period the Luftwaffe's fighters were at their zenith and had the advantage, maybe that's why it's not so popular.... LOL. Three, I just love the look of the Desert. I'm always bugging the Spits VS 109s server to make more Desert maps.  :)

Oh, I'd be interested in seeing that!

I'm glad somebody's finally said this, before I had to! I've read a fair few threads/posts on here and the CoD forum (mostly bashing RoF) that talk about DX9 like it's a disease that should be eradicated. There are plenty of gorgeous looking DX9 titles out there (not just talking sims here); I'm just repeating what Sim said but use of DX10/11 isn't going to suddenly make a game look fantastic or run any better!

Multithreaded Rendering is really the big addition to the API, but will cause a LOT of difficulty for games that also use the standard DX9 for compatability with XP (as all the work with Multithreaded Rendering would need to be re-written/optimized for the DX9 code path)

this artical is from 2008 and is comparing OPENGL TO DIREXTX, but it will inform you as to why 11 is a better choice.

Don't get me wrong oddball, I'm well aware that DX11 can have it's benefits, I'm just saying that DX9 is perfectly capable for now  :)  Anyway, I did read somewhere that the engine may well go down the DX11 route in the future (don't quote me until I find that post!).

When you have limited time and a limited budget with limited resources you don't promise the world and under deliver. Investing time and money into DX11 is a waste when we have other issues to content with. DX9 is plenty pretty for our needs for the foreseeable future. We pick and choose our development battles carefully. If this product is a success maybe we can consider things like DX11 in the future.

Not the post I was looking for but a nod toward future use of DX11 nonetheless.
