Please, please, please enable outside views when aircraft are on the ground.

I wasted three aircraft tonight after getting frustrated trying to find the runway,  giving up and just flooring the throttle in the vain hope that I might get enough height to even just get a glimps of the airfield layout.

Even if it restricted to on the ground and engine off it would at least give people some idea of their surroundings to make an educated guess as to closest end of runway and if it's windy then a strip that is more in line with wind direction if a choice exists.

I think that would be great,  too

There is an awesome airfield/runway map app that somebody made but I never seem to have time to look up the layout when online and time is precious...

Note the name of airport you are going to spawn from, check airfield layout on the map map from here

or consult airfield reference charts  from here

After checking your heading and parking area it should be easier to taxi to the end of the runway by the shortest route

Thanks DaKpilot.

I still think it would be a darn sight easier just to get a birds eye view of your aircraft though and its surroundings. Real life offers much improved graphic fidelity, lots of subtle references, usually somebody to ask or at the very least point and to the best of my knowledge pilots are rarely, if ever, teleported into an aircraft at a strange location and asked to make an educated guess that is sometimes easy and at others, not so.

I really do see where you are coming from  :) but at every airport i have gone to fly at, I have needed to consult the 'map/chart' first and get my bearings

The answer would be to be able to zoom in on the game 'O' map and see the airfield layout before flight/engine start, and a 'Radio' msg giving active runway and wind

The ideal thing to do would be to do what DCS does and draw in the airfield on the "O" map.
