The wifey unplugged my joystick and now I can't fly! I plugged it back in before I opened the launcher and even though none of my settings changed my stick doesn't work. It still works fine with my other games.

Most likely the joystick name was changed by Windows. I actually thought they fixed that.

Try unplugging and reconnecting a few times, restarting the PC each time, and see if that doesn't fix it. Otherwise you might have to reassign axis and buttons unfortunately.

You have to reassign your control keys.

Is this a windows 10 thing?

No such bother on windows 7.

Trust me: It was (is?) a problem for W7 as well.

Though in W7 it only happens sometimes when a device is unplugged or a new one unplugged. In W10 it can apparently happen at every restart.

It happens to me in both Win 7 and Win 10.

Win7 Pro x64 user here. Can confirm this happens in Win7. Just dealt with it two days ago. Had to rebind my joystick and throttle. Such a pain because it just randomly happens but all you need to do is rebind at least.

If you have a lot of buttons mapped, I find it is always better to map the keyboard commands (the defaults as much as possible) to the joystick/throttle buttons (using joystick software or other) than it is to map the joystick/throttle buttons into the game.  Most software also allows a printout as well.  Never a problem with disconnects should they happen.

This.

One of the main advantages of using the software that came with the stick.

It has its little issues but overall its worth it.
