Log ON screen flickering and crashes

I haven’t seen where anyone else was having the problems I’ve been having since installing the latest 1.107 update but if anyone is having flickering and subsequent hard computer crashes to black screen – here’s what fixed it for me!

 

The Log On screen has been flickering for me and then within seconds, it would crash to a black screen. Ctl/Alt/Del wouldn’t get me out of the black screen and only my power button to shut the computer down got me out of it. Obviously I haven’t been able to play the game at all!

 

I had tried a number of things like updating various drivers such as Track IR-5 drivers, Creative drivers etc. I also did the selective startup described in the Microsoft article but nothing helped. I was considering uninstalling and re-installing the game when I thought I’d try older AMD drivers. I’d had the latest 16.1 Crimson drivers installed for my Radeon 280X video card and honestly didn’t think that could be the problem but thought I’d try it anyway.

 

Well – I uninstalled the 16.1 Crimson drivers and re-installed the old Catalyst  15.7.1 drivers (3 driver updates ago) and it worked like a charm! The sim is back running as smooth as butter!
