"Wet look"

Has anyone mentioned that all the planes have the appearance of just coming out from a drenching rainstorm? The glossy look is very unrealistic. Is this a function of the alpha layer? I would much rather see them in a realistic matte finish.

Go ahead and make some skins.

Didn't you make some for ROF? I think it's about the same thing.

That Vaseline coating really bothers me too.

The shine makes fhe aircraft look very alive. It's a beautiful effect. Otherwise they'd look dull and lifeless. As for realism I've seen all sorts of shine or less on real WWII planes.

but it makes the plane cut through the air better like butter.

The aircraft are represented as factory fresh. The Luftwaffe AC came from the factory slightly gloss and then dulled with time. I've seen it referenced at least once in print.

They are factory fresh, yet the glass has hundreds of scratches?

Exactly, and the weathering and paint chips as well.

not as ugly as the CloD plastic finish

I'm not seeing this... These aircraft are largely metallic. They are going to have some serious shine to them.

The canopies are milky white when viewed from outside too.

Don't get me started on the scratches. I b!#ched long and hard on that one in EA. You guys are right on the paint chips though.

It's meant to delineate the difference between metal and wood. You can change with custom skins and alpha layers. Many have already made skins that are matte finish.

The shiny looks bothered me since early access and they look particularly bad now that we have no-winter maps. Above shiny snow it was bearable, but on autumn and summer maps it looks really, really bad. And I'm supposed to fiddle with skins myself to fix what the devs broke?

We didn't break anything. That's your opinion. Be more respectful or build your own sim.
