Jaws2002 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 (edited) Just some headsup. Microsoft added the windows10 as "recommended update" to windows 7 and windows 8 computers. If your pc is setup to download and install "recommended updates" automatically, Windows update will download the 6GB Windows10 install and install it automatically, wiping your Windows 7/8. =362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Wow, I already disabled any updates long ago but this ? Wow. Forcing the update into customers and ultimately removing from them the ability to choose what kind of software they want to use ... this is just unheard of. Who the hell they think they are ?

Boomerang Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Can't you opt out of the Win 10 update anymore? I'm sure I remember seeing something about being able to in the past, or depending on the version of Win 7/8 you are currently running. However: Keep in mind it's better if you do update, Windows can become like Swiss cheese if you decide to neglect this. And remember: All Windows versions have a life cycle, meaning Microsoft will update a particular version for only so long. Yes It doe's stink we are forced to update in order to keep our systems more secure, but that's how it is. Nearly all the PC's I use now are running Win 10, and it seems to boot faster than previous versions. Info Link FAQ: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows-10/upgrade-to-windows-10-faq
J2_Trupobaw Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 (edited) However: Keep in mind it's better if you do update, Windows can become like Swiss cheese if you decide to neglect this. Windows 10 upgrade is "recommended" one, you can disable recommended upgrades and still keep getting important ones. And remember: All Windows versions have a life cycle, meaning Microsoft will update a particular version for only so long. Yes It doe's stink we are forced to update in order to keep our systems more secure, but that's how it is. Yeah, and when Windows 7 lifecycle will end we will look and see which one of system sold at the moment looks like good replacement. Perhaps it will be Windows 10, perhaps whatever brand you'll be ditching Windows 10 for. Perhaps I'll upgrade to Windows 10 while you'll be convincing people to abandon it for brand new brand name? Sigh... This "Boogeyman Microsoft" drivel going around is certainly getting old... None of the Microsoft systems was an adequate replacement for one currently in use in year they were released. Some of them never became adequate. The history of Windows operating systems is best described as Windows 95 ->skip this -> Windows 98 SE -> skip this too ->Windows XP SP3 -> definetely skip this -> Windows 7 -> skip this ->??? we will see. The "tinfoil hat" policy of keeping to tried and tested OS until a really mature one appears has saved me from experiencing disaterous Windows Millenium, Windows Vista and Windows 8, along with early bugged versions of Win 98 and XP. After 20 years, it's statistics - there is no reason to believe Win10 is going to be any better than Vista, yet. Give it three service packs and I'll take a look. Go ahead, test the waters for us. 6./ZG26_Emil Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Can someone give me the short answer of whether this is true or not please. I use my PCs for work and have no wish to update from Windows 7 at this time.
coconut Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Microsoft look more and more desperate. If I don't upgrade now, I suppose two things might happen next: 1) they'll pay me to upgrade, 2) they'll blow up my PC remotely. Not sure what to do...
Brano Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 ... 2) they'll blow up my PC remotely. Not sure what to do...Cut the red wire...oh wait, isn't it green one?
csThor Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Cut the red wire...oh wait, isn't it green one? ... but I only have blue ones here!

I use my PCs for work and have no wish to update from Windows 7 at this time. There's a link in my original post. It's true. Also read the comments in that article. Win10 has some 13% of the market right now and MS wants the 47% win7 market. There was also an article in the mainstream news here in Canada about this. Let me see if I find it. Rjel Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I've been running Windows 10 for several months without issue. I wouldn't go back. It's been stable and has run every program I've thrown at it, including old programs like Paint Shop Pro 7 from 20 years ago. There are too many things in life to worry about for me to get worked up over what Windows to run.

Original_Uwe Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 No, but you clearly have some research to do. Some of us just see no reason to upgrade because 7 works.I don't need 10 to do any of the things I do right now, hence I don't need 10.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 -snip- Go ahead, test the waters for us. I have... In multiple enterprise deployments.
Boomerang Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Perhaps I'll upgrade to Windows 10 while you'll be convincing people to abandon it for brand new brand name? That's quite an assumption.. I'm not convincing anyone to do anything at all, that's their choice isn't it? People are entitled to have an opinion of course! 1
Feathered_IV Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I downloaded W10 a couple of months ago. It took a while to get used to the newest features and to take advantage of them, but I'm very pleased with it now. 1
Brano Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I'm not against new things but I like them installed when I mean to.I can hardly call new OS as an update, even recommended one. 1
Mastermariner Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Russia and China are working on independent op sys and until they are realesed we have little or no option, as usual. I'm currently on win 10 and have no problem or issues what so ever, as I didn't have with 8.1,7,XP..........DOS 1.0 master 1
JamesGoblin Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I have auto-updates on (set on default, whatever it might be - haven't checked), and nothing is happening. Yet...!?
Brano Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Now that you have publicly admitted that,be sure MS men in black are allready at your doorsteps. Wait for knock-knock :D 1
Uufflakke Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 And last November there was already a first major update of 3GB for those who already have W10. Latest version is 1511, Build 10586. Before upgrading to W10 or updating to version 1511 please save your NVidia card settings. Otherwise everything is back again to default. 1
Gump Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I heard ms is switching to a new model with win10, in that they are transitioning to the 'subscription' model, where you pay an annual fee and they keep your PC running their opsys 'service' replacing the old model, where you could keep an opsys indefinitely. not sure if this is true - didn't investigate. software companies commonly use the term "maintenance contract" to describe an annual fee for keeping current with upgrades. tv services require monthly payments or you lose the service. not sure what ms's model would be, if it's true. 1
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 no its (micro$oft) going to charge you to opt-out of the addvertisments and spyware. 1

wtornado Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Microsoft won't let Win 7 last as long as Win XP with security updates for it. M$ is really pushing Win 10. Win 7 Security update support ends Feb 14th 2020. with no new developing of new products for it. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/lifecycle
Dakpilot Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Win 10 is on track to beat its goal of 1 billion users before three years, and is now most popular OS (Win10 64bit) on steam as gamer platform MS is certainly pushing it Cheers Dakpilot
Mastermariner Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 I only had the 32 bit version but I installed it twice so it should be 64 bit now Master 1
